at least the weather network is telling me that next sunday its going to be +22... though I'm sure that will be changed in a few days to a high of +3 and a 60% chance of snow

I actually like all the moisture - it'll help "green" things up sooner.

It is a bit too chilly from what I would like to see, though. I think if it was 10-15 degrees C it would be perfect.

Not when the city starts putting more sand down, it won't... I don't normally like to write this having grown up with too much of the stuff, but we need rain, and lots of it.

    There are lots of types:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow#Types_of_snow

I remember learning a bit about the many Inuit names in the great Danish novel "Smillas Sense of Snow".

Now with the bright sun blaring down while fluffy snow is still falling (!) there is a lot of steam emanating off of the streets and rooftops.

It all looks pretty bizarre out my window right now.

I didn't know this word existed just 1 minute ago, and I already love it. We should invent a drink based on this name, something made in Edmonton and appropriate to the name. Suggestions?

Yeah, mix a paralyzer wrong and curdle the milk....you'll have a gropple.

Cloudy...the brown Coke mix makes you think of all the sand on the roads, the Kaluha for the oil in the province, and the vodka for a nod to high test,

That word is actually graupel. I'll bet that English bastardization of the word graupel, (of German origin) was found in the Urban Dictionary - not the most reliable place to check out words except for slang terms and the like. Furthermore, I don't think I've seen the spelling "gropple" ever used by those in meteorological circles.

In fact, I searched for "gropple" in Wikipedia - it came up empty and instead, I got "Did you mean grope"!
Is there hope for Edmonton? Yes!!! The Oilers? Wait and see.

The forecast this morning said high of 10, partly cloudy this afternoon with 30% chance of precipitation. Took my bike, didn't take a jacket or gloves.

The reality this afternoon was 3 (before windchill factor), windy, snowy, wet, and downright cold. I couldn't feel my hands by the time I got home on my bike, and every red light brought me just that much closer to harakiri.

I want to know who I can hold responsible for this. Who's running those damned Soviet weather machines these days?

What a difference a change of temperature makes. When I was on Whyte Ave in the early afternoon, it was bright and sunny and lots of people out and about. Then once the dark clouds rolled in and the freezing north winds started gusting through, the Ave deserted pretty quickly.

Thumbs down You're an Albertan if................

You can always tell if it's a Alberta car.... the snowbrush is in the back seat in July.
Environment Canada has cancelled the heavy snowfall warning, and yet it is snowing more now that when the warning was still in place.

I was gonna say, it was raining very hard around lunch time today and you could tell some catchbasins weren't keeping up. I'd be surprised if there aren't a few sewer or storm backups.

    Edmonton sets heat record

    By SUN MEDIA

    Last Updated: 23rd September 2009, 5:37pm

Today's heat is record setting in Edmonton.

It reached 33.5 C at the Edmonton City Centre Airport, according to Environment Canada. The record high had been 30 C, set in 1950.

But the hot won't last. The forecast high tomorrow is a much more seasonal 21 C.

The normal high for this time of year is 16 C.

Default Warm reprieve from winter due next week

Warm reprieve from winter due next week
BY JOSEPHINE LIM, EDMONTON JOURNALOCTOBER 9, 2009 6:28 AM

Winter hasn't completely settled over Edmonton, despite the city's first snowfall on Thursday.

Edmontonians just have to endure this cold weather for a week before temperatures return to 15 C, said Lisa Coldwells, an Environment Canada meteorologist.

"An unseasonably cold Arctic air mass is affecting all of Western Canada," she said. "The Arctic air will stay over the region for the weekend."

By Friday next week, the air mass will have moved south and warm air will come under it, she added.

"We're just swinging from one air mass to another," Coldwells said.

Meanwhile, temperatures over the weekend will remain chilly at a daytime high of 0 C, which is 10 degrees below normal. Snow will stop falling this evening but there's a 60-per-cent chance of flurries expected for Monday.

Since we are all sick of Winter trying to return, thought you should know you can blame my nieghbour for it. She spent all last Sunday

Raking her lawn (though there was still a large snowbank on the corner)
    Hosing down her driveway
Sweeping out the curb and gutters and the street in front of her split level of all the gravel.

The only thing she did'nt do was put out her bedding plants.....She obviously gets March confused with May.

Well Winnipeg does qualify in the "plagues" department,

    Extreme Heat
    EXTREME cold
    Mosquitos
And a lot of the first born don't die, they leave........

Nice...LOL...what a clever fellow you are (good on you).

I wonder what cnr67 thinks about this? Since he's from Winterpeg...ha ha. But hey the truth hurts. Even Burton Cummings was smart enough to leave it for parts of the year.

Being clever aside, It helps watching "The Ten Commandments" twice last weekend, Always did love the special effects from that movie, looooong before CGI.

But even Cecil B Demille would have a hard time making Winnipeg look that good! "Let My People Go!"

You know you’re in Winnipeg when…

    • You’ve plugged a car in overnight and it still doesn't start
    • You design your kid’s Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit
    • Driving is better in the winter because then the potholes are filled with snow
    • You carry jumper cables in your car and your girlfriend knows how to use them. I back this 100%

Just a little something I received from my cousin in the Peg

    Winnipeg Wonderland

Aug 12 Moved to our new home in Winnipeg. It is so beautiful
here. The prairies are so vast, can hardly wait to see
the fields covered with snow. Love it here.

Oct 14 Winnipeg is the most beautiful place on earth. The leaves
are all turned different colours and shades of red and orange.
Went for a ride through the beautiful farmland and saw
some Deer. They are so graceful, certainly the most
beautiful creature on earth. This must be paradise. I love it
    here.

Nov 11 Deer season starts soon. I can't imagine anyone wanting to
kill such a beautiful creature. Hope it will snow soon.
Dec 02 It snowed last night. Woke up to find it blanketed in
white. It looks like a postcard. We went outside and
cleaned the snow off the steps and shovelled the
driveway. We had a snowball fight (I won) and when the
snowplough came by, we had to shovel the driveway
again. What a beautiful place. I love Winnipeg.

Dec 12 More snow last night. I love it, the snowplough did his
trick again to the driveway. I love it here.

Dec 19 More snow last night. Couldn't get out of the driveway to
get to work. I am exhausted shovelling snow. @#$%^& snowplough.

Dec 22 More of that white crap fell last night. I've got
blisters on my hands from shovelling. I think that snowplough
hides around the curve and waits until I'm done shovelling the
    driveway. *****

Dec 25 Merry Christmas!! More snow. If I ever
get my hands on that son of a @#$%^ who drives that snowplough, I
swear I'll kill the *******. Don't know why they don't use more
salt on the roads to melt the snow.

Dec 27 More white crap last night. Been inside for 3 days,
except for shovelling out the driveway every time the snowplough
goes by. Can't go anywhere, car's stuck in a mountain of white
crap. The weatherman says to expect another 10" of the garbage again
tonight. Do you know how many shovels full of snow 10" is?

Dec 28 The weatherman was wrong. We got 34" of that
white crap this time. At this rate it won't melt before next
summer. The snowplough got stuck up the road and that *******
came to the door and asked to borrow my shovel. After I told him
how I had broken six shovels already shovelling all the crap he
pushed into my driveway, I broke my last shovel over his
    head.

Jan 04 Finally got out of the house today. Went to the store to
get food and on my way back, a deer ran out in front of
the car and I hit it. Did about $3,000 damage to the car. Those
beasts should be killed. Wish the hunters had killed them
    all last November.

May 03 Moved to Alberta. I can't imagine anyone in their right
mind that would ever live in the God forsaken city of Winnipeg.

    I love my home town.........When I'm here!!!!
