Hmmm, okay thanks. It came up on realtor.ca today for some reason, that's why I was curious. I really like this project and hope it goes ahead.

we really liked it as well (although our end plans were quite different). we couldn’t quite make it work in the time frame ChrisD and company managed to but still wish them luck with it.

^ Oh I didn't know you guys had your eyes on this property as well. Would you have incorporated the old structure as well? (not sure if that is mandated in the sale)

incorporating the old structure was both the challenge and the allure and was a requirement.

not always being successful is the nature of the beast i'm afraid - if you can put something together on one out of ten potential projects, that's a good ratio and about three times what some say you need to look at. we've made offers on the stovell block as well as a number of other potential projects that didn't come to fruition for one reason or another. some you say "that's life" and move on and others you regret for the rest of your career even though you still have no choice but to move on.

some of my favourite projects to this day never got past the conceptual/proposal phase, some publicly (i.e. the national portrait gallery) and some that will remain forever undisclosed except to those of us that worked on them.

It would have been interesting to see what you could have done with the Stovell Block.

    And an older one.

This project is still a go. The sale closes the end of March. Lots of interest on this one and we are planning on breaking ground this spring.

A lot of burger joints have come and gone around this intersection in the past few years. Hope these guys have the magic sauce to make it work.

That magic sauce, hopefully, will be something called "quality ingredients", something that Bannock Burger and ReLish both seemed to lack.

For personal reasons. I dig their sandwiches, but I'm very seldom in the Garneau or Ritchie areas these days. This location will be right in my neighborhood.

That could be it, actually, now that you mention it. There's some kind of highly-hipster artwork covering up the windows of that CRU right now, promising something nonsensical like a "cat tattoo parlour" coming soon.

This was talked about earlier, but the fact sheet refers to input received from stakeholders. Seems to make sense to move the 124 St. LRT stop a block east, even though it is a tad too close to the 120 St. stop, IMO.

    https://www.edmonton.ca/documents/Va...heet-124St.pdf

Following its review of stop location alternatives and with consideration for the input receivedduring engagement, the project team presented its recommendation to locate the 124 Street stopone block east of the originally-planned location.

It'll be Brick, but I believe the cornice work is stucco. We're moving into the second floor when the building opens come June.

I didn't think anyone from Solstice is actually involved? I thought Paul Shufelt is taking the space over by himself? https://edmontonsun.com/life/food/ch...-burgers-fries

So how did we get from messing around with a few burgers back in January to opening a new place this summer?

Well, it started quite unexpectedly, a few days after our event. I woke to the news that Solstice Seasonal Cuisine would be closing its doors to reconsider where they were to take the direction of their business.

A friend reached out shortly after to let me know that they were quietly looking to let the space go. After about a month of back and forth with everyone involved we came to an agreement and took possession of the space on March 1. The construction is well underway now and we hope to be sharing our offerings with the community this summer.

It has a great scale for the area. I'm looking forward to seeing it without all the scaffolding. The windows facing 124th Street appear to be quite large, too. I'm very pleasantly surprised by the quality of this build.

agreed... drove past it yesterday for the first time since the hoarding came down and found it to be quite lovely. it will be a handsome addition to 124 street and would look good in a lot of other neighborhoods.

The Grand definitely is living up to its name so far. I really like what I see. 124th would do well with few more buildings either of this style or at least of this quality.

I wonder who is slated to occupy this building?

^^^ the cornice, corbels and the hint of pilasters with the brick work adds so much.
