I have to admit I haven't been down in person yet, but from the photos it sure doesn't look like a good place to play.

^^^Kids garden if they're among the 8 or so lucky households to win a bit of free public land.

Noodle, I doubt that too many liquefied hockey fans will be bothered about looking around for portapotties. Not while all the usual corners and walls are available. It'll be business as usual.

Alex Decoteau Park is nearing completion, our first Downtown park in decades! While the signs are now down, fresh sod has been laid that needs a few weeks to settle and take root.

We would like to invite you to experience the new park at our Annual CornFest this year on September 9! Details to come soon.

In addition, please mark your calendars for the formal Dedication Ceremony on September 16.

Until then the park will remain an active construction site and we would appreciate your help in staying off the grass.

Woah, that's even less grass than I thought from street level.

I'm glad it turned out like those most involved wanted it to, even if I'd have aspired for more in my own neighbourhood.

well, I finally sauntered down to have a look see for myself. I stand corrected; there are a lot of benches for weary bones to sit on. The wi-fi reception though is terrible!

They added some bar-height seating yesterday that looks fun. Great for a laptop or lunch.

    I walked past today.

Benches look nice. Grass areas are a bit small.

Park project didn't re-do sidewalks, so those are still in rough shape, and along the east side the sidewalk needs to be expanded and street trees need to be added. Other than the existing street trees on the south and a few columnar aspen on the west along the lane all the trees look like small ornamentals so additional shade would be welcome, and without a boulevard along the sidewalk the park just dies at the edge.

I suppose even with a boulevard people will be unlikely to sunbath right at the edge of the sidewalk, but without them there will be a wide border that's not so much park as buffer.

^There is a streetscaping plan for the Downtown area being completed as we speak. That will address the east side in terms of boulevard trees.

On the southside the sidewalk will be expanded quite a bit when the Valley Line LRT goes through. There is a stop right there and why some of Alex D. choices were made.

    Thanks, that makes sense.

I didn't know about the downtown streetscaping plan, sounds interesting.
