thanks for the replies. I do like blue, groomed fast runs, the only concern I would have is that if Nakiska is smaller than Marmot.

Marmot's about 1700 acres, Nakiska just over 1000.

They opened the Knob today. All lifts running before December.

Weather was great and better conditions than most of last year.

We're planning on going this weekend. Good to hear the conditions are decent. Top to bottom on the mountain, or is it a bit skimpy/icy at the bottom?
    Not the best base.

Coverage and base are good all around. The biggest issue is how warm it's been, it's' pretty hard packed down lower but not to the point of being icy yet. Higher up things were softer. On the up side the long range forecast has snow for later this week. You may luck out and get a powder weekend.

Marmot still has two more weekends to go. I was up a week ago and the conditions were amazing, particularly for mid April. Full coverage, no bare spots, soft snow. Things look similar for the coming weekend although we could be getting into crusty mornings. Even so the afternoons will be glorious.

Good to hear. Sunshine was pretty awesome on Sunday, with boot top powder in the Dive.

I remember being in Montana on the 4th of July back in 1981, in Glacier Park, we were in a blizzard with the snow going sidewards. It really freaked out the guys in RV's from Arizona...

I was up last weekend for training and the early snow on the lower mountain is pretty much gone. Looking sketchy for their planned opening in a couple of weeks but you never know.

Meanwhile, just found this video Travel Alberta did on Ryan Titchener. Ryan was a paid patrol at Marmot until a climbing accident a couple of years ago. Last year he was up at the mountain ripping it up in a sit-ski. Lots of great footage here.

Yeah, stayed at the Hilda Creek hostel last weekend, and we only did one lap at Parker's Ridge on Friday. Never took the skins off or locked in the heels, as the coverage was quite thin. Ended up just doing a hike on the Saturday to Saskatchewan glacier, and there was only 3-6" of snow on the ground in sheltered areas so fairly quick travel until we got closer to the glacier and the wind and wind drifts picked up.

Looks like the weather's going to cool off soon, all it takes is one big storm cycle!

Nice video as well. I went to school with Kim Joines growing up and have always considered her a great inspiration in how she tackled her injury and kicked *** in spite of it: http://paralympic.ca/kimberly-joines
