Thread: Carls Jr headed to Edmonton

Default Carls Jr headed to Edmonton

It will be coming pretty quickly. I think it was announced back in 2007 when Fat Burger arrived.

    Never tried the burgers though.

I was hoping for In-N-Out Burger. But as they only serve fresh meat from their California "kitchen" that will probably never happen.

    Although Whataburger would be nice.

Good to hear. I quite enjoyed Carls Jr. when I first tried it earlier this year. Personally I didn't find In N Out to be anything special, except that it was cheap.

This is great to hear, I really like Carls Jr. whenever I travel down states. Now if only someone would bring Yoohoo's to Edmonton I'd be happy.

Agreed. Decent, but nothing special. Pretty bland actually.

Jack in the Box was pretty bad.

    I've never tried Carl's JR.

Never tried Carls Jr and never even heard of In N Out - but am I the only one who thinks the fast food burger market is getting a tad saturated?

Shame on you SDM! You get that thought out of your head! BIAH, I've never heard of In N Out either. But I do like the burger joints.

Carls is good, but everything always tastes better when you can't have it at home. I remember the days I longed for Burger King to set up shop in Edmonton, only then did I realize they dip their buns in grease. I now avoid BK at all costs.

Tend to agree with SDM about the burgers being the craze.

Hoping a place like Jasons Deli makes the next wave of fast yet quality foods to come north.

Black burgers, I like the concept but my stomach is going green just looking at it. Is that onions, garlic or cheese curd on the Jedi burger?

I just saw the Kate Upton commercial for this chain, so naturally I have to bump this topic.

If the chain ever does come here, I hope it is not somewhere on the southside. I would much prefer for it to be centrally located.

Well if this chain does come to Edmonton it will be doing as all chains do, it will have a southside, northside, eastside, westside, and downtown location at least.

That Jedi burger looks pretty good - simply for the absence of lettuce and tomato.

American chains have this fixation with lettuce, tomato and this horrible orange product that they call cheese.

When I go to Wendy's, I pull out the lettuce and tomato and eat it as a side salad!

A&W has it right - you can order without the lettuce and tomato without making it a special order.

i know this is Vancouver information but holy crap thats a lot of burgers

The country’s first Carl’s Jr. was opened by franchisee Jove Franchise Development Corporation. Jove plans to open and operate four more units in the Okanagan Valley over the next five years. CKE has also signed a multi-unit agreement with franchisee FYP Company who plans to build 25 restaurants in the greater Vancouver area over the next six years.

i was looking at this: http://www.ckefranchise.com/canada/a...rritories.html

it shows alberta having some availabilty and grande prarie having none - which must mean there is already one in the works for them and i assume the other parts must have deals signed already - according to the map only BC and alberta seem to be at the stage of having anything going on so far

carls is going for an aggressive move the next couple of years. They want more than 100 of these in canada in the next bunch of years. Up to 10 in Edmonton (i can't see 10)

^ Western Canada (and other parts?) are generally underserved for fast food options compared to the U.S. Probably because we're less interested.

Forget the quantity of burgers - 25 pieces of quality land in the Lower Mainland? Unlikely. Maybe Jove is headed to the malls??? Not with Carl's Jr.

  39. #39

They are also only looking to build A quality stores in Edmonton.

they are opening in chilliwack - hiring now for that location - look to kijiji for edmonton job listings

The owner of South Common land also owns a ton of other land. Burger King is planning a 200 store expansion and has already contacted lots of owners, including South Common, to lease at all of their locations. MacDonalds and Carls Jr also have done the same.

  45. #45

i was looking at the franchise requirements you need something like $3 million for a carls jr franchise - five guys franchise, you only need $500,000 - last time i looked anyway

i guess that why one company has the rights for all the franchises they must have worked out some deal

The GP location may actually be in a new emerging commercial strip between 108 St/Hwy 40 (Wapiti Rd) and Canfor Hauling Road on the west side of Mission Heights, where Google Maps erroneously points the address to in the middle of it.
Is there hope for Edmonton? Yes!!! The Oilers? Wait and see.

Sherwood park seems to be attracting a lot of these start-up franchises. Not sure if there is a single reaosn why. Could it be demographics, space, need, entrepenuers that live there, or sheer coincidence??

There is a Fat Burger on 107th just east of 170th. (The old R. Angus/Finning site).
Nearest 5 Guys might be Windermere or St. Albert though, depends where you are.

Five Guys, Fatburger, Carls, whatever. They're all fast food burgers, and they're all stupid greasy. I don't know why you all go nuts over them. Ain't no different than any other mediocre burger.

I got to try the Carl's Jr location in Kamloops, yesterday.

Their products are similar to what DQ does here in Edmonton already: Charbroiled.

Tastes pretty good, not greasy at all.

Nearest one is perhaps in Saskatoon on 8th Street East (just east of Circle Drive), right near Bonanza. Or perhaps Great Falls, MT.

There is something weird about Saskatoon it seems like they are the restaurant "museum" of Canada, they still have a David's Restaurant (although it might be a Schnitzelmeister now).

All that is left is a wee side of the building where the gas came into the building, probably easier to let it stand until later or incorporate it into the new walls.

Should be opening up pretty soon.

Have had it twice in the last month, while working in the States. It's not bad - somewhat of a DQ vibe to it in terms of hamburgers.

I think the other will be on the westend at the old Taco Bell.

^Maybe if you had actually read the WHOLE THREAD you would see we already know that the old west end taco bell was being turned into Carl's Jr.

Well not exactly, very little of the original structure was left, a wee bit of the north wall where the utility lines came into the building, the grade beams and some of the floor, everything else is a new building, drove by today, exterior, interior finishing left to do.

^So only the Spruce Grove location is open so far?

Wasn't there supposed to be another location at Ellerslie and 66th as stated in post #76

^ Ya, but that shopping complex hasn't even started being built yet... so its going to be awhile still for that one.

Correct - owners had friends/family/accountants/lawyers etc. over at the Spruce Grove location today for a test trial day.

The other 2 locations will be open soon.

Decent burgers. Charbroiled types. Somewhat dairy queen esque.

Well I hope they open already, I would like to go try them out but don't want to make a special trip if they are still closed.

They opened to the public today, massive lineups ... sigh.

I've been to Carls Jr in the states. I wouldn't wait in line for it, especially massive lines up. Not sure what the huge appeal is. It will still be available tomorrow.

We tried the one in Spruce grove, its new (to Edmonton) and thats the draw, the burgers aren't anything special (DQ like) in flavour.

We also suffered from someone with long hair handling the fries (it was almost on top of the batch we got)... Sigh... it kinda killed our appetites.

Would I eat it again? Not sure.

It's always cool to dine at Carls Jr, Jack in the box, Wimpys, Ruby Tuesdays, Peter Piper, Sonic, Roy Rogers, Sweet Frog or Long John etc etc and pick up a few items at Von's or someplace so when we see them here it's only natural to go and check it out. I feel that way anyway. I'll be checking out CJ on Sunday probably

Yawn. Another "healthy" choice for edmontonians. Just what we need. Oh well, replaced another option of the same genre at least.

Top_Dawg didn't know you were such a healthy living snob etownboarder.

    Here's one for ya.

Yesterday one of Top_Dawg's poodle buddies told him her favorite hangover food is donair poutine.

    Top_Dawg just about retched.

I went to the new west end location on Saturday at 7 pm, the line inside was longer than the drive thru line, so we went to order via drive thru, it took about 15 minutes but I didn't mind the wait. I ordered the "famous star" with cheese, the food was good IMO, I upsized to medium fries and drink for 70 cents and it ended up being too much food. We will go back.

It's nothing special. Just like every other fast good burger chain. Fat, sugar and salt. Boring... Not to mention artery clogging. No shame in the occasional cheap fast food burger meal, but we all know it's far from a healthy choice.
