Wow, that's looking great. Let's continue with stuff like this!!! Love how this will visually bring more life to the street. I really hope that other buildings could re engage the street like this.

As long as they keep the exterior doors functional.

Proper function would help for sure.

Amour Jewellers (1st level east near escalators) has shutdown. Still open at WEM.

Looks like Dollarama is coming along quickly now. Last I heard they were supposed to open next month, presumably wanting to do before the Christmas shopping season commences.

Where in the Mall is it going to be located? I have not noticed the construction location yet (I should probably pay more attention to things when I go through there, but usually its during lunch and hunger is taking over).

West mall basement level, below ATB Financial.

The Curated popup shop ends today. I'm curious what will open next in this space.

Stop the presses - the Dollarama is open!

And someone took a picture yet - laughable

Can we raise the bar on this thread just a little?

Not every store in City Centre has to be hoity-toity. Dollarama is a Canadan success story, and provides a great deal of department store items at a place other then Walmart. It provides a needed service to those who actually live in the area, and should be welcomed.

Agreed, although it is perhaps the most in demand store in the mall, in many malls/power centres. I know.

It is on the parkade level, not exactly at a prominent high-visible location.
Southgate also has a lower-level Dollarama.

Maybe some people are just not a fan of what City Centre did to the basement - parking for the rich guys who go to hockey games and one store that caters to poor people. The entry in the picture almost looks prison like, could they make it look any less appealing?

That's what happens when you design your store to be large, but have a tiny entrance so that people can't easily steal- you get a bunch of windows with an entrance shoved off to one side so you don't have to watch both ends of it.

But yeah, that's always been an odd area in the mall- a friend told me the story of someone he knew who was about to sign a lease for a store in that section... before he did so, he decided to sit and watch the area, to see how busy it was. He sat for hours, and found almost nobody doing any kind of shopping beyond grabbing food from one of the five places there. He pretty much up and lectured the mall heads about their promises of a "high-traffic location" and told them to shove it.

I was walking around in here the other day, but didn't go all the way to the basement, since the mall was closed- is the lower level now JUST a parking lot, plus Dollarama? Is Fatburger still around?

^ Fatburger is on the 3rd floor near the food court. Affirmative on the rest.

Yes, Lower Level West is just Dollarama + parkade.

Lower Level East has Shoppers Drug Mart + parkade.

Well the funny thing is with Dollarama is that even though it may not be a fancy store, I wouldn't be surprised that it is also one of the busiest stores in the mall.

The parking serves a much greater purpose than simply accommodating parking for 'rich guys' - whatever that means. It's a HUGE asset that will help market their office towers. Easy and direct access to heated parking is high on the priority list of many office tenants.

I noticed "Store Closing" signs at Eeva & Eve.
Construction noise still ongoing inside the former Danier space but still no info on what's coming there.

Got bored sitting at home so I wandered over to ECC. The mall was as busy as a typical weekday noon which is nice to see, though not as wall-to-wall insane as what I reckon WEM, Southgate and Kingsway would be today (which is why I normally avoid Boxing Day shopping like the plague). Both Holt Renfrew and Henry Singer were also full of shoppers too.

I think it’s on the corner by the pedway leading to Manulife on the 2nd floor. It was a small space so it will be a small branch by most standards.

It's actually two CRUs - the Danier space and the Melanie Lynn space - so the space should be fairly large. What will be interesting is if ATB is indeed moving there, it will be almost next door to a Servus branch!

Pizza does not belong in a goddamned cone, but I'll still probably try this monstrosity at least once.

I think the cone is the pizza crust itself, not an ice cream cone.
What is this eatery replacing? I presume it's the Burrito Libre.

ATB in their current location is probably double the size it needs to be, as they no longer have separate business services nor use their safety deposit box anymore. Between the two it's probably an extra 700-800 square feet.

Very old news, BCBG closed in ECC early last year. Since then their space has been Society and Calendar Club.
