I am getting more excited for this project. I just think the design will really raise the bar.

I think it will just reinforce a standard that is already there starting with Pearl, Ultima, Legend, Sky, and Symphony; from the physical optic, it will change the skyline and contribute tremendously. IMO, what it will do is change a negative outlook of Edmontonians and many external views. This tower is the final connection that will supplant us as a true cosmopolitan city as it is all glass; the latter projects with this will extract enough new shiny factors to balance out the old stale look. When BMO, Falcons, and all the towers for 106st. () are up, it will be wow! We may outshine Calgary in looks come 10 years time folks without instigating a rivalry between the two city

Not that it's a competition or anything but don't you think Calgary will have some new towers in 10 years time as well?

It depends on how their economy is. They have the highest unemployment in the country, and there won't be another boom of development as we just witnessed recently. IMO, we have diversified our economy and weathered way better than Calgary. I think Calgary is in a downturn much like when we went through the 90s where they were in construction mode and we stagnated for 3 decades; in that stagnation, we constructed onlyctwo highrise codos over 15 floors, one midrise; and one office tower. The decline won't be obvious until about 10 yrs from now. I hope I'm wrong as our province is much stronger when everyone is healthy. Head offices has peaked. High unemployment means no purchasing power. Without the oil boom phases, what will drive their economy, and how will they foster in migration for demands? Employment in the trades up north is extremely flat right now. If oil don't reach 85.00 a barrel, I can't see a decent turn around in the O&G then more cuts will occur. Suncor has already introduced a pilot program testing out automated heavy haulers. I give all those drivers three years before they're out jobs as Suncor is American influence now. It has been almost 3 years, and Calgary 's unemployment rate is still the highest in the country as of the latest report recently. Call it a hunch which you inquired with me through that one personal PM you sent me.

^Calgary will be fine. Even with its current unemployment rate there's a fair amount of activity taking place in the city.

I hope so... As I said, a healthy Alberta is good for all of us. Projects going on right now don't reflect what in 10 years. If unemployed continue to stay high, cancellation is a posibilty; They're dependent on oil, and if it doesn't pick up, they're in trouble until they find their way out of it much like we did from the 80's Trudeau to the 90s Klien...

This location is amazing. Having this lot filled will really make a difference. Iím sure glad that office tower 15 years ago never went anywhere. It wasnít the ugliest thing this city has ever seen proposed, but it wasnít pretty. Encore will change the feel of that entire intersection. I sure hope we see something happen at City Centre to improve the opposing corner too.

^^^Calgary will be absolutely fine, but does need to reinvent itself; thankfully it has the means, capital and folks to do it.

Given their 'circumstances', it is quite amazing at the amount of new condo activity down in Calgary.

I saw multiple projects going up in each of these central areas: west village, east village, Eau Claire, and beltline...

Compared to us...we have encore, symphony, ID towers, the Hat, Augustana within the same area.

The comparison with Calgary has stopped long time ago imo.

^i'd argue we are finally catching up... but certainly not there yet. They are a more urban, larger and more wealthy city.

There is definitely more white collar with a higher median income, but they're not necessarily wealthier. One could net 250k and spent 250k yearly and im serious regarding that. There is definitely a higher number of CEOs however.

Gonna be awesome. Tower B will be at the end of the street too.

Yup! As per tower B, with the redrawn podium, iI'm assuming that tower B won't be the only potential tower on that portion of the block? Also, McKenzie tower/Alt+ is directly across the back alley. It will be awsome indeed!

“Yup! As per tower B, with the redrawn podium, iI'm assuming that tower B won't be the only potential tower on that portion of the block?”

Really? It’s one half of one block:the east half. Are you stating the podium in Tower B will support 2 Towers, or are you musing it could as you could be starting a rumour.

The word "potential" should explain it or no? If the theatre is a no go, what do think? Does that not leave room for another "POTENTIAL" tower as they would revert back to traditional placement of columns which would allow for such development?

If I want to start a rumour, it would be more in line as this..., " I heard through a friend of a friend...."
