Default A Canadian Exotic Car in Edmonton

Since it is almost Canada Day and I haven't posted for a while, I thought I would post two images. This Felino is a Canadian made exotic car. I hadn't heard of it before attending this fund raiser last weekend. For $50 anyone can ride in an exotic car of their choice. Proceeds to Kids with Cancer. This is the second year that I know of that it has been held downtown. Interestingly, we have a lot of roads downtown that lend themselves to this sort of thing. BTW the barricades set up for the cars for this event tend to look similar to the barricades for the endless construction of the Walterdale Bridge. It creates the illusion that the bridge is functional. We have to take it any way we can get it.

^When people I know visit Edmonton I always suggest a walk from downtown, Legislature, High Level Bridge, to Whyte Ave as a great way to see the city.

Just my personal opinion, but a giant replica of a muppet is about as graceful an addition to a cityscape as those giant rubber-duckies that are making the rounds.

Otherwise, a good photo Ian, nice slice of the downtown skyline.

Hey, fair enough. And for the record, I don't have any particular idea of what Replacement is known for on this forum. Nothing against him personally, I could probably say that about most, or at least a large number, of the posters.

^Thanks. I guess if the building was there simply by its lonesome it might be just OK but with the Legislature and the Federal building nearby it's simply out of place.

Looks like this is gonna be the new popular skyline angle, as opposed to the top of Connors hill. Not that I'm complaining, I like this one a lot better.

On another note: this is the new Google search picture of Edmonton, it's way way better than the previous picture Google showed.

But it does rust. Not necessarily the connections but the basic structure. It was on the news at the start of the season and the main structure was rusty. The builder said it was because of the type of steel and it will need to be painted often. Regardless, I like how it looks. We now have "an entrance". Well maybe not now as it still isn't open yet but eventually, one of these years we will have an entrance and it will look good.

About as long as Coke has received free advertising from the Gibson Block.

This is the H.V Shaw Building 1914 according to the sign on top of the building. The plaque on the side said that they were tobacco merchants.

It was boring in the suburbs so I headed downtown where there were people and places to see.

    Default Friday Night

It was truly amazing on Friday night downtown. Parking was mostly full, and there were people everywhere. Businesses were open and had customers. I just wanted to keep walking.

That's not the downtown I experienced in the 80's and early 90's. Good thing too. Interestingly, some people in Calgary I know said it's scary dead in their downtown at night.

Having the downtown Santa Claus parade outdoors instead of indoors is quite symbolic of the evolving mindset in this city.

Is there any hope for the old tower? It's still a unique part of the southside skyline but up close it looks tired.

Several groups have been sniffing around it, possibly as a residential conversion.
