Default What are you listening to right now

At the moment i'm really heavy into my dubstep and electronic music, always have a love of it ever since daft punk came out. And for some odd reason its the only music that seems to make me work faster.

A few weeks ago a fellow db developer I knew from a lot of conferences, consulting, and visits died from a massive stroke at 45. He was a huge Rush fan and thus I've been listening to a lot of Rush lately in his memory. Interestingly, I think he was on to something, it's great music to code to.

Right now I'm coding and listening to 2112.

I'm personally a metal fan mostly, but don't mind some electronic music, a limited selection of older rock, and even some jazz once in a while.

    In my playlist now...

    - Underoath (a mix of old and new)
    - August Burns Red
    - As I lay Dying
    - In Flames (mostly older stuff)

I will move the dubstep to another thread.

This thread is about what you are listening to right now. If you want to discuss a genre, a sub genre, or a sub genre of a sub genre, use another thread.

Ahh thanks for the link Dark, yeah that's pretty much what I figured dubstep was. Not quite my cup of tea but I like most music so it's all good.

Currently listening to Mike Sobel on Global Morning news (hey, I had to put something!)

There are mellower versions of it, it was the first thing i had in my playlist. Try looking up ministry of sound, its what i listen to @ work, its not quite dubstep but more electronic.

Starting the work day and my Radio smart playlist (it's set of six other smart playlists that builds up a list of songs based on rankings and last played date) just popped Modest Mouse "Doin' the Cockroach".

Spent all afternoon yesterday at home listening to Blue Rodeo - 5 Days in July, Diamond Mine and Julie Miller - Blue Pony. I had a subwoofer to calibrate

Right now I'm listening to Evan Solomon on CBC Newsworld.

Screw calibrating it, crank that sub to 11 and let the tunes flow lol.

LOL, I would agree if I was 20 again. It's actually not a great sub for movies/db as it just uses 2 8" drivers and is only 150 W (Mirage BPS-150i) but it's killer for music because of the 8's, the quick response, being sealed and thus the accuracy.

Ever since I picked up a turntable I have been accused of being a snooty audiophile, I'll agree when I get the Maggie 1.7's later on this year. Most music IMO when using full range speakers (which I have) don't require a sub but the Maggies lack in lows so a musical sub is a must. It's a win-win

It's funny cause I have a couple of friends that can't stand Geddy's voice or the whole male "nasally sound". If they don't like Geddy then they don't like Jon Anderson from Yes and Tom Petty either. Guarenteed.

I have no problem with any of their voices. I don't listen to Jon Anderson much but Rush and Tom Petty are big on my lists.

Went to see Purity Ring in Montreal at Le National on January 10th, great shoe and spent time with Corin and Megan backstage before they headed to New York on their January US tour. They played in Boston to 2,500 people, their popularity keeps growing. Megan is not based in Montreal, she livres in Halifax now.

^ I wouldn't even recognize this as music.

What complete garbage. I actually listened to it all expecting some music to break out at some point amidst the opening cacophy which ended being the whole song looped endlessly. I think the whole piece could've been done off a 15 second looped splice.

    From Beatles to this.

You called it a "good song". It isn't even a song, its not music, its hopped up gerbils playing with synths, dubstep, and loops.

I was simply referring to the notion that this was music, or a song. I don't really know what it is.

    This is "Trap music" though:

Typical instruments: Sequencer, turntables, sampler, drum machine, synthesizer, keyboard, PC

The problem with this thread is that people are being asked to say what they are listening to, but not allowed to comment on the music itself. That makes this thread rather frustrating. I see comments to some music above and there seems to be no issues. Other comments to other posts have issues. Sigh.

Perhaps it would be beneficial to have a place to allow comments? After all, it seems to repeatedly happen in this thread, and I simply do not have time to constantly unapprove posts.

Really? I didn't watch it and am not a fan of the awards circuit, but there were some great acts last night, both that I listen to (Jack White, Black Keys) and those I don't (Mumford, Alicia Keys).

I wish Bruno Mars and Rihanna would disappear forever, but I won't stop anyone from listening if they're a fan.

I am going to close this thread. Feel free to launch a topic on whatever artist or song you are listening to in the new sub forum on C2E Music - Specific Artist or Song discussion.
