    Default Izakaya Tomo - yum

We decided to make the trek to Izakaya tomo tonight on 99st and 36 ave. An Izakaya is a casual after work place that Is quite popular in japan with tapas and a good sake/sochu/beer selection.

Great basic decor based around wood and traditional design elements.

    Service was friendly and quick.

Tomoya, the head chef and owner is great to chat with and ask for suggestions from.

    We had a lot...

Pork belly - simply put, incredible.
Kimchi pork - perfect spice level, simple effective dish
4 salmon sushi - some of the most tender I have had
4 tuna - maybe the best I have had outside of japan
Beef tataki - Kobe might have the edge, but very good if not a tiny bit chewy.
Crispy takoyaki. - an Izakaya favourite of mine from Osaka, great flavour, a must try
Deep fried oysters - never a big fan, these were delish.
Crispy spicy tuna - more a meal than a taste, good but not after this much.

Mix in some asahi black and sake, great night.

I tried this a few weeks ago, ordered like half the menu with some friends. Everything I had was very good.

The grand opening was fantastic. Great food, great service, and the chef is a really cool guy. I hope they continue to do well. Unfortunately the location sucks.

IanO, you should post a link to this discussion in the Must Try Restaurant thread. That way the specific discussion can stay in this thread, but the restaurant will get more exposure. I think this would be good practice for C2E restaurant reviews in general

The wasabi was one of the highlights for me, actual wasabi not paste. I had takoyaki for breakfast today and am a happy man.

Wow, this sounds fantastic. I wish it weren't so far off of the(my) beaten path, though! I don't get out to the 'burbs much without a car...

For sure.. better safe than sorry.

Especially if you've bussed an hour and a half just to get there, then find out it's full.

If you're bored and surfing on Chrome: click on the Japanese menu link on their menu page and allow it to auto-translate the text:

I was allowed in the dressing please listen to Yuzu

This place is amaaaaaazing. I just wish it were easier to reach without a car; I would be there all the time if this were someplace I could get to easily! I will hold out hope for a second location, but locals to the area, if you haven't tried it yet, make the effort.
