I think trees prevent seeing the towers downtown, at some locations.

What about the horizon line? That is just the point where the sky meets land point. Tall objects Stantec will still stand out from that line- although quite small.

That distance is based on the height of 250.8 metres given in the thread title. From the top, you can see 56.6 km/ . Inversely, from the same distance, you should see the top of the tower.

For example, at my height of 1.75 m, the horizon is about 4.7 km.

Try different numbers and see what you get.

I understand what you were trying to say before you even uploaded all the information. All that info was part of my highschool art 10 class from highschool over 3 decades ago. I think you are explaining the "vanishing point."

Calgary’s are down by the river with a hill in front. Coming in on the QE2 and Deerfoot you only see the top half of the skyscrapers. Coming into the Bow Valley on 17th from Forest Lawn and Bow Trail from the west are great views. Crescent Road on the north hill, Salisbury St. on Scotsman’s hill are great and from the south coming in over the hill of the Chinese cemetery on Macleod.

They seem to be placing metal bracing on the elevator shaft on the east side in areas where they haven't put glazing. Anyone know what they might be doing here?

On the 65th floor now. 1 more residential floor, 3 mechanical floors, and this is topped off.

First wave of Stantec staff move in Sept 15. Is it clear yet where the main office access doors are on the building? I know the lobby is on 3/4 but imagine there's elevator/escalator directly to there without having to work up through the podim. Curious how they'll manage that with the continuing construction above.

Just did a floor count from the webcam... and I think they are just getting to the slab for floor 65. They should have two more floor slabs to pour... lvl 66 floor and the floor slab of the first level of the mechanical penthouse.

I don't understand why they had the "window" opening in that concrete shaft but now they're covering up. What was the point of that?

We need a high viewing floor in town. I used to go up to Vista 33 often and was disappointed when they closed it. Hoping for something soon. I still go up the Calgary Tower two or three times a year. SonnyBoy loves to go up.

This is interesting, it looks like the core is going to slope up to meet the top of the building? I don't remember seeing this in any of the renderings.

Looks like the last of the concrete floors have been poured. That appears to be the steel for the mechanical levels.

My guess is not sloped, but rather braced diagonally for shear/strength.

Yes, according to http://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?countryID=1 Stantek is the ninth tallest in Canada, the first eight being in Toronto. CN Tower is a "structure" not a building?
So, here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ings_in_Canada it is ranked number eight.

It's currently the 5th tallest building in Canada if you go by roof height.
'The One' is not yet completed, and the rooflines of both Adelaide Hotel and TD Tower are far lower than Stantec.

Thanks - I could not get my head around that angle. Odd that building made the background but not Scotia Place. Interesting angle in that wonderful picture. Far to the right it looks CIBC Centre peaking through but maybe I am wrong on that.

It’s almost time for our Edmonton teams to move into our new Company headquarters, the Stantec Tower! Yesterday, signage from our Bell Tower office came down, in the shadow of our future home. It’s hard to believe that employees will be moving in a few short months! For those interested in a construction update – as of today, the 65th floor has been poured (with 2 typical floors and a two storey mechanical room to go) and the Tower is standing at 230 metres tall - reaching our maximum height of 251 metres at the end of 2018!

A bit confused by the floor count in that post, I thought all the standard floors had been poured but they're saying there's still 2 to go? They're already onto the steel.

"The tower, when finished this Fall, will be 66 stories (251 m in height)." Not the 69 stated in this threads header.

You should go over and correct Stantec's site then:

a total of 251 metres (823 feet). Once completed, it will stand at 66 storeys
    https://www.stantec.com/en/about-us/...llest-building

The caveat, of course is that 67, 68, and 69 are mechanical floors, but that's not defined as the usable space of a building. Probably just better off sticking to height.

Out of curiosity, does Vancouver have height restrictions? It's curious so few of the really tall buildings in Canada are there.

    First, what is "osha?"

Secondly,OSSA has nothing to do with harness. OSSA is a standard protocol practice that was implemented by four Oilsand companies for their standards whch was adopted by every other developnent in the Oilsands.
Final, the harness is due to the construction bible known as OH&S that we have to adhere to unless we want a hefty fine or jail if something happen,; or, we're caught in person for violating any construction law. For harness, it is mandatory at 11" or higher. However, all major construction projects appear to have adopted OSSA's standard when working at height which is 6" or higher. They're are not pussies; they just want to hug their wives and kids, and one can't do that if they're dead.
