Great photo Voice!! I'm beginning to like Stantec a whole lot more now that there's a bit of detail going on with the residential portion ... also, the two towers look great together!

At what point do high rises uses dampers? Im assuming geographics are a big reason, what about height?

    helluva view:

Yesterday, with the concrete pouring of the 54th floor, the @Stantec Tower officially became the tallest building in Edmonton. Check out the view!

Yes those 2 factors, plus the design of the building, a fairly thin building (like a sliver tower) might use them more, versus a more squatter building.
The glass bridge on the Icefields Parkway has them to reduce swaying.

jeez we need a few more that high in the downtown core !

The old CN Tower looks so small.

It would be great to have an observation deck or a penthouse lounge with bar...

The height does look nice and can't wait to see the Stantec topped out, but I don't agree that I want to see more of that height right now. I would rather see 2 or 3 more of the CN height, and 2 or 3 of the EPCOR height, then we can see 1 or 2 taller towers closer or taller than Stantec. Also I would much rather see some unique looking towers, innovative architecture, creative mixes of architectural styles.

stantec coming in from 109 SB just after kingsway really has a diffirent look to it because of the fins. ill have to snap a picture sometime.

I see that too. It is looking better than what i had anticipated with those fins. Im thrilled with what i see. This architect firm that designed it has very talented designers.

It is dense from that view as there are lots of condos west of downtown to Oliver. With all the new proposed towers and heights, that view will change if those projects procede.

Yes but there's so many people here with the whole "world class" mindset. Much like former mayor Bill Smith's ridiculous claim about best city, best province, best country. Yes, it's a fairly tall building but not especially so.

    A monster? Hardly.

People need to get out of town more.

Within the context of current world wide skyscraper construction Stantec is to be expected especially with a city the size of Edmonton. Monster would have to be in the supertall class (1000ft+).

Only here will users take a superficial, descriptive term and immediately create a criteria of what it actually should mean and how it was misused for the sake of arguing. Can't make this stuff up.

    10 Commerce Court West Toronto 239 m (784 ft) (287 m (942 ft) tip) 57 1973

It is an endless pissing contest of phallic shaped objects.

I for one am just glad that since the airport was shutdown, we now can build significant buildings in DT. Prior to that we had only one new skyscraper built for over 25 years in Edmonton. Be thankful with what you get unless you are willing to build a taller one with your own money.

Yeah, I’m not sure why tallest building lists are popular. The stats are just of the briefest interest to me whenever I see them.

Now, a list of buildings with the largest number of floors exceeding neighboring buildings and maybe lists of the greatest window circumference or area might be more interesting.

Largest buildings lists are a bit more interesting because volume and footprint sometimes says a lot. But again, a large building in say Hong Kong would be much more interesting to learn about than a large building in Las Vegas.

I was at the Edmonton Minor Soccer Association West Complex on 231 St today for my son's soccer festival game today. The view of downtown and particularly of Stantec and the Marriott was incredible from there. Sorry, I forgot to snap a picture.

Love to see some different cladding colors used in our skyline, some nice grey/silver or even black like the telus sky building in Calgary so all the buildings dont blend together as one blue blob.

Close to the full height of the crane, or the full height of the tower?

With the tower having only ~8 floors left to go, I don't think it will top out as high as where the top of the crane is.

The gap below for the crane obviously needs room to work/move/lift.

On the 62nd floor. 4 more residential floors to go, plus 3 mechanical floors.

    Went for a stroll today.

Downtown has such a different vibe compared to 5 years ago.

The towers were visible from as far away as west of Stony Plain!

You can easily spot the towers on HWY19, they are noticable on HWY39, HWY 16 at Beach Corner...basically when you crest the old shore of Lake Edmonton.

It sure is a different look now...

Stantec Tower really came out much better than the rendering. Amazing.

I’ve seen downtown from as far north as Highway 803 (north of 28, about 45 km).

Once it reaches the final height, i would assume it would be vissible about an hour's drive outside of the city as ur landscape is pretty much even elevation all around. It shouldn't be much different than our drive to Calgary where their towers are visible roughly an hour away.
