    Default Brief forum outage

I needed to take the forum down for a few seconds to fix an urgent database error.

All is well now. My apologies if I caught people in mid post.

no apologies necessary... people don't realize how much you have invested - and continue to invest - in this forum in time and money. maybe a regular outage would serve as a gentle reminder to say thank you now and then.

    thank you.

Thanks. The moderators and I appreciate the sentiments.

I am looking to upgrade the forum engine as it is far past ancient. However, as I research vBulletin, it seems that they have fallen pretty far from grace, so I am looking at other hosts and CMS engines.

    Please be patient.

Well, it is now getting interesting.

This site, as well as all others I administer, is being brute forced right now. Not from the typical Chinese areas, but concidently enough, the Russian Federation, the Ukraine, and Malasyia (with some in Vietnam).

^Wow, who'd have thought that C2E would be the object of such attention and scrutiny.

Someone obviously doesn't like our discussion of the Crimea Crisis

And/or the missing Malysian airliner. Completely wild-*** theory; Russian agents have hijacked the plane, shadowed a sister plane through radar-intensive airspace as discussed on the Malay plane thread, and landed the plane in Kazakstan at the cosmodrome to be refueld. The plane is now being loaded with explosives or being made into a giant fuel-air bomb, and will be sent to deliberately run into a Russian target to inflict maximum casualties. Evidence will be found that the bombing was done by Ukranians or Iranians, or someone else Russia would like to invade, and the Russian government will use the "attack" to justfiy invading said country. Our discussions hear are among the places on the web getting a little too close to the truth for the liking of Russian Cyber Warfare, so we're among the web sites being attacked. Completely out there, and I hope I'm wrong, but things seem nuts right now

What are they attempting to brute force? The admin password? Or did you mean a denial of service like attack?

Apache failed briefly this morning. The forum itself was online, but the CMS was not.

    Rebooted. Fixed.
