Default Old film & video links for Edmonton, Alberta, etc.

I know c2e has some threads dedicated to old postcards, etc. but I didn't see a thread dedicated to finding old films showing Edmonton, or Alberta, (or Canada for that matter) so I thought I'd start one to try to compile a decent resource of them in one place.

Here's a resource I just came across today:

C2e has some specific threads too. Here's one I banked on c2e here a while back:

The same youtube channel that has that video of Mayor Hawrelak has quite a few historic Edmonton / Alberta videos. I posted one of their videos in another thread some time ago showing the opening of Groat Road Bridge in 1955. The video also has some other shots of Edmonton at that time:

All credit to Cine Audio Visual. Their channel has some other cool vids:

    This is Calgary but interesting...

Calgary evacuates: Operation Lifesaver practices for a nuclear disaster
"The clock is ticking down to a planned disaster. On a sleepy Wednesday morning, Calgary's mayor initiates the alarm to empty one-quarter of the city's suburbs. Schoolchildren run home and families are given two hours to relocate to surrounding towns. Escape routes are tested and by early afternoon the northeastern section of the city is eerily deserted. This CBC Television report chronicles the mass evacuation effort."

A couple interesting comments about Alberta's oil revenues in the 1990s. Also interesting that Alberta want to supply the rest of Canada's oil back in 1957 and I think eastern Canada still imports a lot of oil.

Despite the futuristic pretensions of that ad, it really does reflect a more innocent, less cynical time...

Nowadays, anyone actually doing that would be a sitting target for "loser geek trekkie" jokes.

Film footage of our city from the 1920s is very rare indeed. Only a few have been tracked down, and are held in the Glenbow Museum's collections.

Yesterday, the Pittsburgh Penguins twitter posted this video of Edmonton from 1989.
