It kind of remind me of Dallas from that angle for some reason.

The JW did its last pours on mechanical it looks like and is topped out at 56 storeys or 191m. Stantec is about to overtake it and has around 16-17 floors left to go en route to 251m.

Only 9m short of making the 200m skyscraper list on wiki and most other listings. At least Edmonton will have 1 on the lists when Stantec completed.

Construction milestone brings Edmonton one floor closer to newest luxury hotel and residences

EDMONTON – May 8, 2018 –Today, ICE District Properties Joint Venture hosted media and VIP’s to the highest vantage point in the city, and currently, the highest tower in Edmonton, as they celebrated the topping off of JW Marriott Edmonton ICE District -The Legends Private Residences located on the corner of 102 Street and 104 Avenue in Edmonton. This much anticipated milestone marks the completion of the structural phase of the building, bringing Edmonton’s newest four-star hotel and private residential luxury suites one floor closer to reality.

Once complete, JW Marriott Edmonton ICE District will be only the third JW Marriott in Canada. The building will be 56 storeys in height – the first 22 storeys as hotel space with The Legends Private Residences above the hotel.

“To be topping off the first luxury hotel alongside The Legends Private Residences in ICE District demonstrates the transformation that is occurring in our downtown core,” said Glen Scott, president of Katz Group Real Estate. “We are excited to bring you even closer to sports, entertainment, shopping and living all in one remarkable location.”

Slated to open in Q1 2019, JW Marriott Edmonton ICE District will feature 346 rooms and approximately 22,000 sq. ft. of meeting and conference space, a 10,500 sq. ft. ballroom, spa, swimming pool, and multiple restaurants operated by nationally-recognized Oliver and Bonacini Restaurants.

JW Marriott Edmonton ICE District will also be home to a 20,000 sq. ft. high performance fitness centre offering the latest technology and training philosophies, featuring unparalleled amenities and first-class personal service. This full-service facility will offer limited memberships.

Situated above JW Marriott Edmonton ICE District will be The Legends Private Residences – 262 sophisticated and functional condominium units that will occupy floors 23 through 54 of the tower, offering panoramic city views. The Legends Private Residences will feature a direct, inside connection to Edmonton’s enclosed pedway system which will grant access to Rogers Place, the LRT, and major office buildings in Edmonton’s downtown core. Residents will enjoy exclusive social and amenity spaces both indoors and outdoors, including a fully-wired boardroom that can be converted to a private dining room, party lounge with retractable glass walls (allowing owners and their guests to flow from inside to out), ample seating, large-screen TV’s, a wet bar and billiards lounge.

“JW Marriott Edmonton ICE District is the perfect addition to the upscale downtown area that ICE District has become. The hotel will appeal to both visitors looking for a superior experience but will also bring to the city business guests for conferences and conventions,” said Martin Stitt, Area Vice President, Western Canada, Marriott Hotels Canada.

The Legends’ residents will also get to enjoy many of the luxury services offered by JW Marriott Edmonton ICE District, including privileged access to sumptuous restaurant dining options, the ability to rejuvenate in a stunning indoor swimming pool and the fully equipped fitness centre, or enjoy a pampering spa, all directly connected to their residences.

Set to open from Q2 2019 to Q4 2019 and currently just over 90 per cent sold, exceptional suites are still available for purchase at The Legends Private Residences including a few Pinnacle and Penthouse Collection suites showcasing upgraded premium features and finishes in each individual residence.

The final row of glass has started on the penthouse floor on the east side - looks like no balconies for the penthouse on the east side at least. Glass looks great...

There is some type of metallic cladding going up on floor 6 of the JW. Seems to be a complementary match to the Rogers Place exterior. You can see it best in the "North-West" time-lapse camera angle.

So it looks like they are prepping the area to start building the pedway from Edmonton Tower.

Hard to say - but sure looks as if that 3-ton wouldn't make it under.

Probably just as well - it's going to be an awfully busy crossing to/from the plaza at times and probably shouldn't be a truck route.

Given our experiences with the High Level, I hope its strong enough to be a can-opener if a truck hits it

If you consider perspective (truck is closer to viewer both N-S and E-W) and that most pedway bridges have some arch built into them, I don't think there's much doubt that a truck of that size would have no trouble clearing it.

There's a bit of an angle there with the line of sight. I'm sure the truck could clear the pedway, and I'm sure that some trucks will be making deliveries.

All photos taken today. They have taken down the jersey barriers from the 104 Avenue sidewalk. Probably means they're getting ready to reconstruct the sidewalk/public realm!

They make the core of cities look more metropolitan and dense but take away street life. Choose your poison.

Wasnt everyone here bitching they couldnt walk this sidewalk near here anyway?

This pedway should help bring more people into the Ice District and, ideally, the outdoor plaza with its year-round programming. That is putting more people "on the streets".

We're a winter city. Pedways are just a response to the reality of having created frigid wind tunnels with all the downtown skyscrapers.

Not a bad thing when the wind is howling

The Pedway for that stretch isn't new either. At this point it's neither good or bad but "is". I'm curious if many of that road's CRU's are still there or were changed / eliminated since the last plans I saw a year or so ago.

I imagine that there could be some wicked wind tunnels around the Ice District.
