Default Time for a C2E page update?

I'm a regular and enjoy coming to the page, but it's gotten pretty tired looking.

You sign on and see the "police town hall meetings" from 2012?

New articles? Or a total page update?

I think it's very much time.

I'm sure there's lots of folks that would help out. Especially if you posted it to Make Something Edmonton. Or have a community league or two help out with logistics and costs?

I thought it had something to do with someone running off with the password.

Yes. The CMS password is gone and it is integrated with the site.

I am tired of the front end too. I may have to change the domain name too as it is owned by someone else.

So what you're saying is someone could shut this off overnight for no reason whatsoever? I'm sure it would have happened already if they had malicious intentions but still...

Yeah, I would change the domain asap. And if you need some financial help, I'm sure many of us here would be more than willing.

C2E is unique. No City to my knowledge has a forum like this. Sure there are lots of Facebook forums but they clumsy to navigate.

Calgary has something "similar" that is Calgary puck.

It's not really well organized IMHO, but exsists.

Calgary Puck is a forum for the Calgary Flames, much like Oilfans.com is a forum for the Oilers.

The only other example I know of in Canada of a C2E is www.urbantoronto.ca

Many cities have active forums on skyscraperpage, I would bet that the Calgary section of SSP is as busy as C2E is here... http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/foru...hp?forumid=416

Looking for a C2e type forum for New Westminster BC. Might be a Facebook group.

Calgary uses a www.skyscraperpage.com local subforum, Edmonton has a tiny local forum because C2E already has that it covered.

    Edmonton first, everything else second.

Would an easy solution not be by a new domain and move the forums?

I have bought several others in anticipation for this potential reality. However, Connect2Edmonton was a long discussion. It does fit. Anything else I would make www.domain.com/connect2edmonton or www.domain.com/c2e

    ^ Makes sense.

Off topic, is there a way C2E could embed tweets into posts? Another forum I frequent (also uses vBulletin) allows you to attach a tweet and it shows up in your post exactly as it does on Twitter including pictures, logos, etc.

    Thanks

Yes. The old board said no, and our IT person was vehemently against this.

When I upgrade, yes, this will happen.

I've heard that XenForo is quite stable. Another board I frequent has been contemplating upgrading to it because VB4 apparently isn't great and VB3 is a bit long in the tooth.
Edmonton is a very exciting place to be right now.

Thanks for the domain names. Registered!

I am looking at something other than vb as I also hear vb4 is not the greatest. Also vb5 cloud is $$$$ and I already get killed on bandwidth.

I am concerned about the data migration if I leave vb though.

The value of C2E is its archive.

Can the front page articles be updated at all? Their age almost makes c2e look like a defunct site.

If those articles could be updated then could new "articles" be inserted or referenced that link to the forum? Maybe: "New Forum Posts", "Forum Topics"...

Other than the right hand side of the title page which shows the outdated items the remainder of the page looks fine to me. I typically never look too much at that page and just go directly to the forums. I think the only thing I would like to see, time permitting of course, is to be able to review thread titles, especially for specific topics and rename them so it is easier to find through a thread title search. There are lots that are fine as they are but there are some that don't really indicate that well what is being discussed in the thread.
LRT is our future, time to push forward.

I'd highly recommend Discourse if you're looking at forum platforms. Pretty much one of the best options out there at the moment that is pushing the forum platform as a whole forward. Tons of organizations use it. Heck, Twitter uses it as their developer board. Linode just made the switch for their support boards. The ability to pull in archives from all sorts of boards along with users is top notch.

Runs on Ruby, scales extremely well. Puts a lot of the load onto the client side of things instead of the server.

    https://www.discourse.org

You can check out their support forum here:

    https://meta.discourse.org

The best part - it runs on mobile devices flawlessly out of the box and you won't see better performance from any other forum out there on mobile devices. Forum gets served up by nginx instead of apache, but in a separate instance, so after people hit the web server, the "forum" application does all the heavy lifting separately.

There is also a trust level built in that can be modified in order to prevent spam and promote good behaviour. See this: https://meta.discourse.org/t/what-do...levels-do/4924

Regardless, I'd be happy to help out with any 'upgrade' that might be forthcoming. I have time that I can offer to this endeavour, to whomever is making these decisions....
