Great shots Thomas! I'm looking at the last two pictures and visualizing where the hotel and Stantec will be located; from that visual, I see Manulife just squeaking in between the two towers- possibly partially obscured. I would love it if you could revisit the exact location that you took those pictures and retake the shots when the new towers are fully erect. From what I see in my head with Stantec and the hotel's color - from the renders - we are going to have a dandy view from the north end as those colors are going to contrast and compliment each other very nicely.

I took the pics on the 8th floor of the NAIT tower, anyone can go there and take a picture. The glass is a bit dirty though. I was hoping Hendrix would stand out more in the skyline from that vantage point.

Jasper Ave. is Edmonton's #1 street, Whyte Ave. is #2, 104th Ave. is #3 but it might pass Whyte Ave. someday.

Thnx. It's always good to see pictures of Edmonton on the forum no matter who contributes. Most of us cannot be in every spot at once during every event or season so the pics are a great snap shot of what is happening and where.

    ^ agreed.

Especially love that last photo from Chinatown, a very different "take" than we've seen before here.

I think many people take for granted how pedestrian-oriented Chinatown is, even if the infrastructure isn't getting the love it needs.

Almost complete Fox 2 tower, the white one with the red accent on top. Recently completed Ultima Tower, the one in the centre. Norquest College campus expansion under construction, the short white building in the distance.

This light industrial area of Edmonton just north of downtown needs more residential projects like this. This area is one of the few areas in the city where the roads are wide enough for angle parking. There are a lot of neat developments that can be done to take advantage of the angle parking. A good example would be Quebec City style row housing with additional suites above accessed by a curved metal staircase.

IMG_3630 by Thomas Huizinga, on Flickr
I love the new additions to MacEwan University but do we really need surface parking? The whole length of the street is in bad shape and needs proper sidewalks, c’mon Edmonton, stop dragging your feet.

The back of the new CFAC Building turned out much better than I thought it would!

I had to take a skyline shot from the 156th Street railway overpass. The skyline will significantly change in the next couple of months.

BTW - Egad that Westmount thing is terrible. I'm okay with slab tower, but the podium base looks like it's been designed by a 3 year old. It's just awful. Like a slab tower sprung out of a strip mall.

    April showers bring ugly towers?

It looks like Westmount Village will have no underground parking, what a shame. Perhaps a good number of seniors won't have a car.

Be a month and spare change and visiting NHL teams and their tag along entourages will begin trooping through town. More than a few individuals are going to wonder what the hell is going on here!

The difference between the years is incredible, however, I think when we take pictures of our downtown in 2020 is really when we will see the difference. So excited for what is yet to come in the next couple of years alone!

A panorama of Edmonton's skyline from the north side. The crane visible on the far right of the photo is where MacLaren Tower is being built. This gives you an idea of how large Edmonton's urban footprint is.

MacEwan University SAMU under construction. This building expansion will take over what used to be green space between the existing building and the sidewalk, making the area feel more urban.

The new cladding on the Stanley Milner Library renovation in downtown appears to be brown. I am having an impossible time trying to like this building so far.

Core samples and preparations are underway for construction of Emerald Tower.

Building renovation underway in the Brewery District, a power centre near downtown. Notice the awful blank wall of the back side of the power centre that faces a bike path.

Edmonton July 6, 2018 by Thomas Huizinga, on Flickr
The former light industrial area beside the Brewery District has had all streets and sidewalks redone last summer. The area no longer feels like an industrial area.

Edmonton July 6, 2018 by Thomas Huizinga, on Flickr
This building is under construction just across the street from the Brewery District.

Edmonton July 6, 2018 by Thomas Huizinga, on Flickr
Building under construction, as mentioned above. Note that the square shaped building takes up almost an entire block.

Edmonton July 6, 2018 by Thomas Huizinga, on Flickr
Looking south down 124th street you see MacLaren Tower under construction in the distance.

Edmonton July 6, 2018 by Thomas Huizinga, on Flickr
Getting closer makes it easy to see that MacLaren will demand attention when complete.

Edmonton July 6, 2018 by Thomas Huizinga, on Flickr
There are still some vacant lots to fill up but looks a 1000 times better than it looked 18 years ago.
