Default Army Reserve weekly Information Sessions

41 Canadian Brigade Group Recruiters are hosting weekly Information Sessions at the Brigadier James Curry Jefferson Armoury (11630 109 Street) at 7:00 pm on Wednesday evenings where they explain the role of the reserves, training and the recruiting process. Additionally, each week a different unit is highlighted through a guest speaker to explain what they do and the trades they are looking for. All are welcome and there is no obligation. Appreciate your posting information like this and the posts you've done on deployments and exercises.

Awareness helps us understand all that is going on at the Garrison and area.

I'm insane enough to want to be an intelligence operator. Close to my 40s, super duper highly educated, physically fit (except for smoking) with a great job.

How would it look if I applied.

Thomas Hinderks: Thanks, I'm never quite sure if anyone will give a damn about what I'm posting on. But if at least one person sees value, I will continue.

Safir: I've know people to join in their 40s/50s. Mandatory retirement age in the military is 60, so they'll recruit as old as mid/late 50s. Physical fitness is important but also attitude. On Basic Military Qualification course, you'd be treated the same as an 18 year old straight out of high school. That can be a challenge for some people.

If you're interested, I recommend you attend the Info Session on the 13th. At the very least, you'll learn a little more what intelligence operators do (and don't do. Most peoples expectations on IntOps are inaccurate). If you like what you learn and you're interested in pursuing it, you can keep your great job and do something unique on the side in the Reserves.

6 Intelligence Company is an bit of an odd duck since it doesn't belong to 41 Canadian Brigade Group, it actually falls directly under 3rd Canadian Division. I don't know much about them, but here are some references:

^I appreciate it as well. I've been thinking of joining reserves when a shoulder injury heals. Only thing that scares me is they will try and make me do my existing job. If I join, it will be to do something totally different from my work life (like drive a tank or something like that). I find it interesting how you sort of "choose" a regiment you think you might like.

Moahunter: Trades are chosen by recruits as part of the application process. For example, if you apply for vehicle technician, they won't force you to be a clerk.

Unfortunately, no driving tanks in the Reserves unless you work full-time with the Regular Force. Even Southern Alberta Light Horse, an armoured unit, does not have true armoured vehicles. They drive these: http://www.army-armee.forces.gc.ca/e...s/g-wagon.page

I updated my original post with a bit more detail on the info session as well as a disclaimer about the guest speaker.

kgb81: 41 CER guest speaker couldn't make it last night. If you're interested in Combat Engineer, please contact 41 CBG Recruiting (email above). One of the Recruiters is a Combat Engineer so can likely answer any questions.

41 CBG Recruiting has a note on their Facebook that South Alberta Light Horse is conducting Vehicle Checkpoint drills at Jefferson tonight. If you're planning to go, make sure you bring ID.
