Imagine sitting at home alone all day. You are living with illness and cannot enjoy the activities you used to. You have some family in town, but you don't want to burden them with your needs. You are trying to stay happy, healthy and independent for as long as possible in your own home...but you are feeling pretty lonely and could use someone to talk to about things other than your illness. Maybe even someone who could play a game of cards or help you enjoy a past hobby.

If you have some experience with seniors, are comfortable visiting in someone else's home and have time Monday-Friday during the day, then Alberta Health Services Home Care could be a great fit for you!

This is a great way for you to bring "community" to a Home Care client who is living with illness but still wants to participate in conversation and fun activities. You will get the benefit of hearing some great stories, accumulating volunteer experience and brightening someone's day!

We ask for a commitment of 1-2 hours weekly or biweekly for a minimum of 6 months and volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. You can choose your own placement and visit times are flexible to suit your schedule. For the safety of our clients, we conduct an in-person interview and require 3 references and a clear police records check. A driver's abstract and insurance company notification is also required to be able to drive with clients. All volunteers must attend a training session before being matched with a Home Care client.
