Default Putting in a new patch - Monday, October 17, 2016

    Hello all.

I will be putting in a new vBulleting patch this afternoon. This is supposed to help with the server load/db issues.

    You may experience an outage.

    I will post when complete.

Thanks for all your hard work tracking down the root causes & issues

I spent this weekend rebuilding/upgrading one of my home servers & will be spending the next week ironing out the kinks between the various daemons, programs & databases, so I have nothing but sympathies for you.

Would disabling the grassy background help any? It often renders slower and slower as a page gets longer. I'd like to disable it for myself at least, but where?

Your browser should be caching it though. It shouldn't reload every time. That would be a client side thing of a slow computer.

Well, a slow browser renderer. I have plenty of horsepower. But sometimes it renders noticeably after the content box, I think the longer my browser window is open. I'd still like to disable it.

BTW, when the system gets too busy, what processes are eating so much CPU?

I am not sure if it is any process on the C2E server or another server also hosted on this box. When I check C2E's specific CPU utilization, it is ~1.4-1.8 % of available capacity. From that metric, it is mice marbles in comparison to whatever else is running.

However, I am not ruling out db inefficiencies, hence the upgrade.

I will take C2E offline for 5-7 minutes at 12:30 mountain.

Do you do any MySQL tuning?

That was painful. However, the patches are in.

    Hopefully this helps.

Nice and responsive now, no spinning hamster ball. Good job on the updates, those are miserable sods to install.

Oh lucky you! Do you run SMART to monitor your disk health?

It still isn't as responsive as I'd like, but the major bottlenecks are gone.

I will be doing more tuning as the week goes on.

Was completely unresponsive shortly after Chmilz posted. We might have found our cause!

Never underestimate my ability to break the internet! It was super smooth right until my post, and then it took a dump again

    All,

The entire array decided to pack it in. We're running on one disk, and the I/O is pinned.

A new set is getting configured. The forum will go offline as it migrates, including any system messages. It will appear as if C2E is gone. It isn't.

I will let the forum know when we're ready to migrate disk.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

I'm going to migrate this to member alerts. Please see the outage thread for new updates.
