Theo Fleury kicks off NorthwestFest 2017 THIS FRIDAY!

NorthwestFest starts FRIDAY, featuring the best in documentary features, shorts, media arts, podcasts, and more. Whether youíre curious about the worlds of Americaís best session musicians, daredevils, spelling bees, scientology, or the obituary section of the New York Times, NorthwestFest has got you covered!!

Opening night brings the highly-anticipated premiere of VICTOR WALK to Metro Cinema, with special guest Theoren Fleury in attendance (VIP Meet & Greet tickets available, which include a copy of Theoís book, Playing with Fire.) Proceeds of this special OPENING NIGHT screening event will directly benefit the Breaking Free Foundation and Little Warriors, 2 great organizations that provide support and treatment for survivors of traumatic life events.

On May 6, we present the CANADIAN PREMIERE of the intimate new profile, MAY IT LAST: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers, directed by Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio. The screening will feature a silent auction of autographed collectibles to raise funds for the Stollery Childrenís Health Foundation.

Director Jesse James Miller, and local producer - and NWF favourite - Adam Scorgie (ICE GUARDIANS) return to NWF with CHASING EVEL premiering at Metro Cinema on May 12.

The Bell Media Best of Hot Docs Series features some of the yearís most acclaimed docs, including TOKYO IDOLS, LET THERE BE LIGHT, OUT OF THIN AIR, 78/52, and:

THE LAST ANIMALS follows a group of conservationists in their heroic efforts to save elephants and rhinos from extinction. Acclaimed photojournalist Kate Brooks will be in attendance for this unforgettable sscreening.

Closer to home, we're thrilled to present the Canadian Premiere of the stunning new music doc, NO ROADS HOME, featuring the pride of Cremona, Alberta, Blake Reid. Screening Thursday May 11, stay tuned more info about this very special screening!

We've also got 2 FANTASTIC Motherís Day screenings at the RAM, including BEE NATION, which follows a group of Saskatchewan students competing in the First Nations Spelling Bee, and the beautifully moving love letter to service dogs, LETTING GO OF ADELE. With some tasty snacks, a luscious wine bar, guest filmmakers, and complimentary pamper stations from our friends at Kiehl's Since 1851, this will be THE place to spend the day with Mom!

And bringing it all home, legendary session drummer Kenny Aronoff and director Fran Strine join us for the Closing Night screening of the raucous and wildly entertaining crowd-pleaser, HIRED GUN, examining the rollercoaster lives of the musicians who have played supporting roles on some of rockís most iconic albums.
