Thread: Trump - misc

  1. #1

    Default Trump - misc

Thought this was slightly funny (see video). Trump was actually rather impressive in his restraint.

More importantly it's hilarious that some people somehow see the media or the "msm" as some kind of monolithic entity or establishment or whatever instead of a bunch of uncoordinated, uncooperative, in-anything but competing - businesses as is evident in this video:

Oh FFS. Is this another Trump thread. What is with you people.
Why not start a thread on Trump's Bathroom Décor, Trump's Shirt Buttons, Trump's Leftover Breakfast etc.
Yes the guy can be an outright buffoon but he's president of the U S A and that's it. Get over it, quit making nonsensical nothings about it.
It's bad enough PTR bleating away on other threads so do we really need another one to listen to his rendering.

Trumps right about the press . Most what they report isn't even news but, opinion pieces and unnamed sources . Hence the fake news media
It's become so biased . Compare fox to a CNN .

Fox News Channel, also known as Fox News, is an American basic cable and satellite news television channel that is owned by the Fox Entertainment Group subsidiary of 21st Century Fox. Fox News Channel has been accused of biased reporting and promoting the Republican Party and has been deemed the least accurate cable news source according to Politifact. (7/19/2016)

^Fox is the number one news channel in the US today. As to the "bias", there is no such a thing as a neutral news channel. Fox is center, CNN is far left / tabloid / borderline communist, and is barely a top ten channel now.

Fox News moved past MSNBC this past week in the prime time demo, and remains ahead in total viewers in prime time and across total day.

MSNBC defeated CNN in total prime time viewers for the 22nd consecutive week, and in total day audience for the 18th straight week.

CNN remained a top 10 basic cable network in total audience. It finished No. 9 in prime time and No. 10 in total day this past week.

And then when a primary, NAMED source says something on camera that goes against their "anonymous" source, they ignore it or brush it off as "edited".

The selective reporting is the most dishonest thing about the media today.

    FOX is hardly center

If you are looking for an "adult" debate on TV news programs, FOX is more guilty of bias, poor reporting and vitriolic showmanship than most others. They lowered the bar of news journalism to pulp fiction and tabloid trash.

    Meanwhile

Left-leaning MSNBC pulled big numbers as the only network in open opposition to the president, even before the spat between Trump and “Morning Joe” hosts Joe Scarborough and Brzezinski engulfed Washington.

According to Nielsen’s second quarter ratings, MSNBC’s total viewers are up 73 percent year-over-year, with prime-time viewership up 86 percent, easily making it the fastest growing cable news outlet.

Anchor Rachel Maddow has become a cultural icon on the left while also attracting a younger audience of viewers. MSNBC’s share of the coveted 25- to 54-year-old demographic grew 78 percent in prime time over last year. Their prime-time audience has nearly tripled since second quarter of 2014.

I'm no expert but from my experience, in print media as in Newspapers, Broadsheet is usually centre left. Tabloid is usually centre right. I come form a time when the Edmonton Journal was a afternoon/evening paper. Heck, myself and I know of a few others here at c2e that used to deliver the Journal afternoon paper. The Edmonton Sun was the first city newspaper here in Edmonton that went mornings in 1978. The Journal resisted and continued as a afternoon paper for a few years after that until I think 1983 and became a morning paper like the Sun.

Oh dear lawd, you really do need intervention. How rabid over Trump are you. Your total obsession is OTT. I'm sure if the whole forum became about Trump you would be lording over it. Is Trump really worth so much of your time?. Most of what has been said on this thread has been covered on OTHER Trump threads but I guess let's cover it again because it's so riveting NOT. Trumps satire of a boxing match was just faked by him to high light CNN fake news but the rabid lefties jump right in as if it's gospel. I should imagine people who dislike Trump will be bursting blood vessels if this goes on much longer. If Trump gets another term I can see the mental health system overloaded with Trump Derangement Syndrome patients (much like yourself).

The Face of White Supremacy in 2017

    June 12, 2017 Domestic Terrorism
TRADITIONAL WHITE SUPREMACIST ORGANIZATIONS ATTEMPT TO “REBRAND”
To appeal to new audiences susceptible to its radical messaging, the national white supremacist movement has tried to deemphasize hate symbols and attacks against non-white communities. These organizations have “rebranded” since at least last year, when they took a more high-profile role with conferences and rallies, official statements, and recruitment efforts.

On November 4, 2016, the National Socialist Movement (NSM), the major white supremacist umbrella group, declared its intent to stop using the swastika. NSM stated it has “every intention to bring our Party . . . into the halls of Government here in the United States, and to do that we must reach more of the public. The masses believe exactly as we do, but have steered clear of us due to our use of the swastika. Your Party Platform remains the same, your Party remains unchanged, it is a cosmetic overhaul only.”

To date, the website of the Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan denies it is a hate group and focuses messaging on the “love of the white race” and “restoring America to a White Christian nation.” The organization also claims it does not want to harm the “darker races” but “simply want[s] to live separate from them.”

Please identify which of these are left and right according to your classification method. History channel? Is it left or right wing media? Lib or con? MSM?

Also, if you look at the numbers, CNN is very low, with 'hardly anyone' watching it, so why on earth would anyone call it the so called "MSM" - whatever that is? How is CNN historically? How long have these numbers been representative of viewership? Years? If so then it would seem that the whole msm drama is just more BS.

Now FOX, that outlet clearly would fall into the MSM category wouldn't it?

Hmm, looks like Fox has been the MSM leader for nearly 16 years!!!!!!!

This is an interesting opinion piece, though as always it's not very intellectually rigourous or evidence based - hence me calling it an opinion piece. Moreover, counting numbers, proportions of journalists exhibiting bias and taking one side or the other is fine but pointless if these journalists have no actual meaningful influence - might as well include foreign journalists and their biases too.

Just like all those people "living in the past" and still taking poll results seriously, looking at journalist bias in a world where hardly anyone gets their viewpoints from those journalists is a wasted effort. The world has moved on and journalism is a dead profession just like the newspapers they worked for are now irrelevant.

Couric: And when it comes to establishing your world view, I was curious, what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this -- to stay informed and to understand the world?

Palin: I've read most of them again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media --

Couric: But what ones specifically? I'm curious.

Palin: Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years.

Couric: Can you name any of them?

Palin: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news.

Trump says a lot of things, many of which are not true. I don't believe Mexico has ever agreed to pay for it, perhaps you missed that important point.

    Yep.

Mexico's Secretary of Foreign Affairs Luis Videgaray Caso said that the meeting went "very well" and was "productive," according to remarks distributed by Mexican government's international press office. The conversation mainly focused on NAFTA, and Videgaray said that negotiations will start on Aug. 16 and he expects that the three countries involved will agree upon "a meaningful, constructive modernization of the agreement" that benefits all of them.
"The issue of the wall was not discussed, was not part of the conversation," Videgaray said.

^That's what you get from that? Sad.

Interesting that Tillerson (ex-CEO of Exxon) is the only other American in the room for Trumps meeting with Putin, considering how much Exxon has to gain if Trump drops sanctions of Russia.

I am sure Putin is smart enough to understand negotiating - give a little, get a lot. Another temporary cease fire in Syria may allow Trump to claim some sort of victory.

The cease fire will probably last as long those jobs Trump saved. Of course the media may be distracted by something else later, so they may not notice if it does not last.

I expect what Putin really wants to get is the sanctions against Russia lifted, I think he wants that more that a tie, but Trump is going to have trouble convincing Congress to go along with that.

PRT, your chart shows known or possible links between Team Trump and the Russians.
This is amazing analysis, but I'm confused, is this all of the possible links??

Same way that people say that all Muslims, billions of them, are responsible for what a tiny fraction of a percentage do.

Unfortunately it's the way of the world. A small percentage of people terrorize and yet everyone gets painted with the same brush. Whites are not the exception either. Throughout time they have had their own forms of terrorism but one thing about western civilization is that we are moving forward and progressing from barbaric ways. Just sometimes they fall back now and then.

Are we really? People are still being bombed. Either by terrorists or an army, the dead are dead. Or are we just getting more efficient at it? Using drones so out people don't come to harm, for example. Or are we just changing the labels to make them more palatable?

There's a man in the White House who literally campaigned on "Bomb the **** out of them" and bombing the families of suspected combatants.

    From Sept. 16, 2014
The US is now involved in 134 wars or none, depending on your definition of 'war'

"We're engaged in a major counterterrorism operation," he told CBS News on Sept. 11. "I think war is the wrong terminology and analogy but the fact is that we are engaged in a very significant global effort to curb terrorist activity... I don't think people need to get into war fever on this. I think they have to view it as a heightened level of counter terrorist activity."

Kerry said similarly hedgy things during interviews on CNN and ABC.

By the next day, the Obama administration appeared more comfortable with the word war, yet hardly offered any more clarity. White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters, "The United States is at war with ISIL in the same way we are at war with Al Qaeda and its affiliates."

The problem is that our traditional definition of "war" is outdated, and so is our imagination of what war means.

World War II was the last time Congress officially declared war. Since then, the conflicts we've called "wars" — from Vietnam through to the second Iraq War — have actually been congressional "authorizations of military force." And more recently, beginning with the War Powers Act of 1973, presidential war powers have expanded so much that, according to the Congressional Research Service, it's no longer clear whether a president requires congressional authorization at all.

Yes. Both Trump and his supporters are responsible for the sum total of all the rhetoric they put out. Every bit of it; every last part.

Those who choose to join a mob, a group, whatever, accept the consequences of everything in the group, and add their own responsibility to the group's.

That's the way of the world. That's why all Muslims, billions of them, are responsible for what a tiny fraction of a percentage do; and that's why white people ARE terrorists and our cities pay for our governments' wars with attacks.

If Trump did not want such responsibility, even public repudiation would not be enough, so long as he had accepted the vote he had had. If he wanted no such responsibility he should not have run.

If you want no such responsibility, join no groups.

Except that you must, if you would survive on more than hunting and gathering like the outcast you would make yourself into.

Excellent post! It clearly delineates that you can't have it both ways. From the view of other people in other countries, the acts of Western nations and ideas can be seen as acts of imperialism and terrorism. Drone strikes, the threat of nuclear anilatation and constant poverty are to name a few.

Millions of people in other countries believe all Americans, all of them, are just like Trump. The ugly American.

In the same way that Jews follow Judaic laws. It covers things like marriages, dietary concerns, things of that nature. For example, if you want to ban "Koranic law", you would make it illegal for Muslims to bow towards Mecca to pray. You would force stores to stop selling halal food products.

As they say, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

  96. #96

Koranic Law isn't Canadian law. Do you advocate for laws to make everybody in Canada have to pray to Mecca and have to eat Halal food only? Because that's what I am opposing.

I like living in a country that follows and enforces secular Western Democratic law, not Islamic Koranic law. And I want my children to enjoy these freedoms as well. I will always protect those freedoms that so many of us take for granted in this part of the world, and will always oppose political viewpoints that try to wedge religious doctrines (like Koranic law) into Canadian law.

Funny but I don't see any jurisdiction, civic, provincial or federal, that is advocating such a thing. Just as there are people who advocate for "Christian" values to be enshrined into law, that doesn't mean that it's happening. It just means that somebody is spouting off.

Frankly, I'm much more concerned about Christians getting laws passed to enshrine their religion than I am about Muslims doing the same simply because it's infinitely more likely to happen.

These guys seem to be more to your liking.

    Christian Heritage Party of Canada

Some of the key goals and principles of the CHP are:

    Opposing abortion[5]
    Opposing Right to Die legislation[6]
    Abolishing secular education[7]
    Opposing same-sex marriage[8]
Provide Family Care Allowance when one parent is providing full-time care in the home for children or dependent family members[9]
Use the Bank of Canada to overhaul the economy and the infrastructure of Canada by providing interest-free loans to municipalities, provinces and crown corporations[10]
Eliminate income tax, and replace it with a "fair tax"[11]
Pay off the national debt "like a mortgage and institute balanced budget protocols"[12]
    Support responsible firearms ownership[13]
Restrict immigration to preserve Judeo-Christian values, including a "moratorium on immigration from any Sharia based countries"[14]

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christ...arty_of_Canada
Even with those policies that you would undoubtedly find quite reasonable, the best they've ever done in a federal election was 0.78% in 1988. In the 2015 election they managed a whopping 0.09%.

Considering how many order of magnitudes Christians outnumber Muslims in Canada, a similar Muslim Party wouldn't even register.
