Default Animethon 2017, August 11-13 MacEwan University

Thought I'd mention the upcoming Animethon event in a couple days for those unaware.
This will be the 24th Animethon; longest running event of it's kind in Canada.

Taking place on August 11-13, 2017 at MacEwan University.

Focusing on Japanese pop culture such as anime, cosplay, gaming, etc. with guests, videos, contests, and panels.

For those not so much into the anime scene but fans of music there are musical acts from Japan performing Saturday night as well as a local orchestra performing music from popular video games, anime, and tv shows on Sunday.
Event and day passes available at the door, children 12 and under free. Rates on the website.

Schedule of all events and more information on animethon.org.

Appears they've outgrown the Grant Mac location (it's been basically hosted at GMac since GMac was built and operating) and it will be moving to the Shaw Conference next year.

Will be interesting to see a heck of a lot of people on Saturday when Cariwest and Animethon intersect.

Great to see the growth and even this year the intersection was very significant. Saturday was as busy Downtown as I have really ever seen it.

I'm surprised they're outgrowing Grant Mac, especially given that the new Allard space is opening soon. But the Shaw is a much nicer location.

It's not that the event has outgrown MacEwan University.
MacEwan and Shaw both have their pros and cons as venues for the event.
Sadly there isn't a venue in Edmonton that can accommodate all of the event's wish-list for function space. MacEwan and Shaw are just the closest matches.

There are some plans that have been talked about for years that are simply impossible to do at MacEwan, but possible at Shaw.
So for the event's 25th next year it's a great chance to try out some new things.
