    Default The Edmonton Project

    The Edmonton Project
    http://theedmontonproject.ca/

Edmontonians get excited about doing an idea. They get excited about creating a story.
The Edmonton Project brings these two components together.

The objective is to inspire all Edmontonians (yes, all of you) to develop an idea that can become a permanent place of attraction.
Something that contributes to our story.
Something you would want to see on a postcard.
Something that you would want people on the other side of the world to talk about. In a good way.

It’s not about fabricating a statue or iconic structure to give us a reason to be proud. It’s about finding the idea that can exist within our environment and be used as a testament to who we are.

The Edmonton Project will uncover and bring to life that one idea. It’s out there.
Be passionate. Be genuine. Be innovative. But most of all, be part of this story. We are looking to Edmontonians for their ideas on something that can help answer the question, “What’s Edmonton Made Of?” The idea, whatever it is, wherever it is, will forever be a testament in Edmonton to who we are.
We want to hear from everyone. Tell us what you want to see, where you want to see it, and how it defines us. This is, after all, Edmonton’s project.
Idea submissions will be accepted from August 25 until October 20, 2017.
At first, I wasn't quite sure how this was different from Make Something Edmonton (who are involved) but my understanding is that this is a Dragon's Den type of thing where you submit a community-building new idea, and 5 corporations help make it happen.

Anyway, if you have a Great Idea for a Greater Edmonton, maybe this will help.

This one is going to be very interesting to follow...

    My suggestion:

Museum of industry and innovation in the old Rossdale power gen station with a market condo or 2 to kick-off the West Rossdale Plan. Add in a brewery and restaurant in the old pump house with a new, larger patio and a park/performance space tucked in on the SWC of the space next to the bridge/touch the water.

^ Go ahead and submit it!

I'm also thinking of some reusage for the old Rossdale plant.
Also brainstorming some ideas for Lower Rossdale, the river valley, End of Steel, East Whyte, Quarters and Blatchford.

Wow... although yeah, I know. This is just Edmonton after all, we wouldn’t want to pick something really spectacular if we could get away with just a hot tub or a sauna. Talk about an Edmonton project that cries (as in tears) “This is Edmonton!”

The gondola could be special. Even the container projects could be interesting and the tree house intriguing. Somehow though, I can’t see going to Singapore or London or pitching Amazon that we held an open public competition for a signature Edmonton Project and what we picked was a sauna.

Maybe you’re mind is just sauna impaired or limited to what you think a sauna has to be. Time to take a day off to spend at the spa.

I love the gondola idea, but unlike many, I also thought a funicular was a cool idea too.

BTW, I can’t tolerate saunas and I tore out the fairly nice one in our house.

According to the 3rd last paragraph in this article, the Edmonton Project might be an ongoing thing.

As you well know grasshopper, it is not what you do, it is how you do it. Saunas/Onsen/hotpools could really make winter incredible here.

Maybe we could have a Ferris wheels of saunas AND food trucks? Would we have to wait an hour after eating before going in the water?

thank you for the insight master...

i never before realised that execution was so important to the success of the end result.

or that saunas and hot tubs could have such an impact on our urban fabric if we only added japanese names for them to the mix. maybe we could add sudatorys to the brochure as well for european markets?

The Fins also like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lutefisk: old dried fish marinated in lye.

But they also gave us Teemu Selanne, so they might be on to something!

Ian's just continuing his decade-long (at least online) crusade to have ideas/activities/developments from other countries ripped from their cultural heritage & context to be expensively recreated on the public dime here, in a vain "Field of Dreams" attempt to have infrastructure inform/instruct culture & not the other way around.

Just shake your head & laugh. You'll sooner have luck getting a leopard to change his spots than have Ian change his attitudes, behaviour, or opinions.
Giving less of a damn than ever… Can't laugh at the ignorant if you ignore them!
