Kind of good though as it covers the sea of concrete.

I just love the colour of the glass. I wonder if I would like it so much from the inside though. Might be weird having everything outside looking blue.

  3. #1103

I think the glazing is clear. Since there are no lights luminating internally, it creates a dark tinted atmosphere which creates an illusion of blue as the spandrels is that colour. I drove by once since they started installing glazings, so I could easily be wrong.

Is there a confirmed height on Symphony ? I'm thinking around 90m.

I'm really liking the glazing on this tower. I thought it was going to be more reflective based on the renderings but I'm happy its more transparent.

Looking good. The only thing that makes me a little nervous is the stucco portions and the north elevation. But I'll wait to see before passing judgement.

I would still be happy regardless. Render◊3= reality through my observatory processes. I think it will contrast nicely as they will be centred and limited in exposure- just the right amount to accent thd structure and emphasize the curve. Same materials in white/cream, we are laughing. Stucco, if done properly, will still be affective imo.

The stucco should look good on this one. As Ed said, itís decently proportioned.

I still would have loved to see a strip of orange metallic cladding running up the building to contrast against the glazing.

A bit of a surprising stunner, at least from 3 sides.

Three sides? I get one side will be blocked but still a stunner nevertheless.

Not sure why you'd say surprising ?

The renderings always looked splashy & more interesting than the average condos on the hill, although weak on details. (as you say, the N elevation will be "interesting" to see)

Maybe surprising they carried thru as well as they did...

Is the back side not the reverse of the front and same glazings & claddings? If So, we kneed to wait for the unveil? I knew it was going to be a stunner and stated in the past that it will have a visual impact which is very evident at this stage. This will be a stunner on all four sides even with the stucco.

^ No, north side is all stucco similar to Fox Towers. I'm not too concerned about it because it will be mostly hidden by the towers to the north. The south elevation is definitely the most important on this building, and it's turning out great!

What? I was unaware of that. It shouldn't be classified as luxury then but high end of the mid-end. Oh brother! This would be like the snobby Doctors and dentists thinking their super millionaires lol.

Basic rule Ed... If you don't see a rendering of a certain project elevation, 95% of the time it means the developer's not too proud of it.

I'm use to luxury as luxury not interpreted luxury. Let's hope for a change of heart by them. I finally understand some of the comments now.

Love the look of this tower.

In your second picture, that big plot of land in the forefront has sat empty for a while now. Were there ever plans to develop it? And what used to be there? I swear there was an apartment there at one point.

It used to be owned by Communitas and there was a proposal for a mid-rise tower called 'Rossdale Green', but it failed to launch and so the Province purchased the lands there and south along 105st to preserve views.

And they own about a Dozen other properties in the area, many of them the kind of low-rises and converted houses that should be prime sites for redevelopment.

Well, the first post for this tower came 10.5 years ago. Have they built anything else during that time? Donít think so. I donít quite understand their business model.

The developer, Allen Wasnea, is a mechanical engineer who has done the mechanical design on a significant proportion of the multi-unit housing stock in Edmonton over the past half century or so. During that time, he also acquired a fairly significant number of apartment buildings in that area (not sure if he built any of them, or simply bought them. Development of Symphony I think was a long time dream of his, but I'm not sure how much appetite he'll have for future projects.

Thanks for that Marcel. If this turns out to be a one-off legacy project, it's certainly being done in darn fine fashion! But, let's hope there's more to come from Allen Wasnea.

I'll reserve my final judgement for when it's finished, but Telus Sky seems to look better in the renders than it is in execution currently. Not a fan of how it's turning out.

Symphony looks great. Reminds me a bit of Burj Al Arab in Dubai. I wouldn't have expected an 80m+ building to make such an impact on our skyline but it really does from certain angles.

I haven't seen an "after" picture from this exact same angle (or have missed it) - is it visible ?

I get what you're extolled. As per its prominence, the color choice is the reason and contribution to that factor. In all honesty, I wished it was more than 40 floors; that designed is nice. I look forward to see how the sunlight will interact with the structure through the day.

Taken today. Looks like the scaffolding is ready to come down around the townhouses.

I like it a lot too, but I'm still a bit worried about the backside.

Townhouses will look great. But they are not selling - not yet anyway. I think just one has sold. Lots of square footage, lots of $$$, maybe not an ideal spot for families.

But love this project. So well done and unique.

Townhouses would appeal to families, but more so to those coming out of a house who want to be at or near the ground floor.

Can't wait to see the street level finished and landscaped. Hopefully when that part is done those lower units will sell much quicker.

Yea this one turned out really well. The finished product (glass, etc.) looks a lot better than the renders did.

This is a really lovely building, with really amazing views.
Is that "bridge" to the Leg Grounds still going in? That really takes a lot of the "inconvenience", I say that because there are very few day to day services around that particular area, out of getting up into Downtown with out a vehicle.

Yes, there will be a small portal/bridge to 107th.

Excellent for the residents. With those views, the added connection to Downtown and the River Valley, it is a very nice location.

Nitpicking perhaps, but the SE corner had a more pronounced 'sweeping curve' in the renders. Much more flat in real life.

Nonetheless, this tower turning out to be a unique build..pleasantly surprised how there is a some curtain wall on the north face.
