Curious to know if I will be able to see Symphony tower once complete. The crane was raised last week.

Looks to be a little over halfway up. It will have a significant presence when viewed from the south side.

It'll definitely freshen up the view from the south.

Without any surveying it's not possible to say. However, I did some quick trigonometry for you and it's likely you'll see the top 10-15 meters of the tower. So expect to see a few floors.

Isn't it going to be taller than the red tower to the north?

Never clued in on this before, but there are going to be so awesome views of the leg grounds from some of these units.

Looking at the last picture above, they're at 17 floors to date. It's likely this one will be very visible from a good sized area.

The shape of the tower is somewhat different from what we can see from the rendering. They probably 'tamed' down the curves as part of their value-engineering. Makes sense - curves are costly and Kennedy loves curves...or at least used to.

The Province. Dying to see that become a nice mid-rise development with a corner cafe or something fronting onto the park.

Based on the planning I've heard about, the plan was to turn it into some additional park space - I know the province is fighting hard to get more of it in the valley around the Leg. I seem to recall an article from a few months (years?) ago where the province was trying to obtain all the City-held land west of the baseball diamond to turn it into a park to help preserve what few views remain to the Leg building.

Curves are often 'tamed' due to cost and constructibility.

Not saying they haven't softened the curves. But the final glass vs. what the concrete structure looks like is likely a little different.

To say it looks nothing like the render when its only the concrete is just funny is all.

Not sure what's funny about it. It does look different. It may look more similar when the glass goes up but at this point it looks very different.

    Where though?
I think the rendering may have exaggerated the curve on the south east face, but it's still there. That's the only thing that i can see. Otherwise the rest looks pretty much the same to me.

They haven't reached the levels where the fluting of the balconies becomes pronounced which sort of the last 'marquee' feature of the south profile.

  32. #1032

Even the south facing balconies are different. There are two concrete slabs with southwest protruding corners but in the render only one. And I fail to see how the 90 degree angle facing southeast is ever going to match the render, even with glazing. Maybe it's just a weird render.

You can see how the SE corner has a slight curve and returns at 90 degs. That isn't shown in the rendering, but it's the same.
As for the south face balconies, i don't see any difference.

o.k. so it's a bit hard to tell because the wide angle lens skews the angles on the photo as you can tell that the bottom balconies look quite different from the upper floors but let's look at the difference that I see.

As seen from above, this is approximately what the rendering looks like... (balconies in blue)

And this is approximately what the photo looks like...

And yes, I've spent way too much time on this. Lol. Good thing my wife is out of town.

^Very surprising but good to see.

And with Central Tower(Century Park), Tower B(Ice District), The MacLearn, Corner 1 Tower and Encore starting and soon to be rising up, there will be more to come too. I'm sure I'm missing some and there will be more announcements in the new year but Edmonton is doing quite well at this time I have to say.

Generally it is about 1yr from closing in the envelope to completion. Of course this can be phased if the developer wishes.

That tower will be spectacular when finished; it will shine!

That colour. Reminds me of a building nearby:

Yeah I definitely see the similarity

I'm thinking Mr "Check Your Eyes" missed the part about the comparison being strictly about the colour, which is kinda hilarious.

Yep, especially considering the colour caste on the two photos is slightly different, they are close.

No he didn't. A link to the source is required.

I think someone who's been banned more than once shouldn't really be kicking sand at a moderator, but that's just me.
Well that got out of hand quickly. Damn.

No worries, Ponto, your intention was good! I also had wanted to do the same with giving credit to the original photographer, though a bunch of info popped up regarding needing to link the page.

As for that teal color, it's just used in the accent strips surrounding the window and the glass itself is somewhat darker (or is it?, lol) and will of course change and look different depending upon the amount of light cast upon it ... whatever the case, I believe the finished product will turn out very nice.

^yup, didn't think I would, but it is slim enough spandrel, light enough and bright enough to add some modern/colour to our south skyline wall.

I went by this the other day and was thrilled with what I saw. In this picture, the glazing clashes so beautifully with the dark brown brick tower to the north. This was something I envisioned during render/sales stages. The real outcome has turned out that much better. Love that colour!

A classy project and something more along the lines of what one would see in Vancouver with regards to the landscape work ... love it!

The construction elevator goes as high as 24 right now, so the forms in place are for 26. It may have already been poured. Just a floor and a roof after that.

The more I see this tower, the more I wish it was taller for the south elevation view. This just look incredible. What a change for the area.

A little stumpy from angles, but still an excellent addition.
