Tommy Ramone, the original drummer and producer of the legendary punk quartet the Ramones, died at his home in Ridgewood, Queens on Friday after a long battle with bile duct cancer, Variety reported.

The 62-year-old rocker was the last surviving original member of the band and played drums on the band’s first three albums, “Ramones,” “Leave Home,” and “Rocket to Russia,” including some of the band’s more influential singles: “Blitzkrieg Bop,” “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend,” and “Rockaway Beach.”

    Obituary: Archibald (Archie) Andrews, 1941-2014
Honorable to his last breath, Archie was an action hero without a cape, an everyday Riverdalian who did not need physiological transformation to perform noble deeds. He was a maladroit ubermensch grappling forever with the forces of Good and Evil, Light and Darkness, Betty and Veronica.

On Wednesday at a post-fundraiser party for his controversial friend, U.S. Senator Kevin Keller, the bumbling athlete and love-torn musician Archibald “Archie” Andrews leapt in front of an assassin’s bullet intended for the openly gay U.S. senator.

That's an alternate reality version of Archie. Some journalists need to nerd up if they want to write about comic books.

    Blues guitarist Johnny Winter:

When I was a wee 15 year old youngin' & just learning how to play guitar in late 1979, Eddie Van Halen was becoming the new rage, but I really didn't get it ... then a good friend introduced me to Johnny Winter and changed my life forever.

My Grandpa and I used to really like watching The Rockford Files, Fridays at 9 on that huge Zenith chromacolor that NO ONE was allowed to touch apart from Grandpa along with his Space Command remote.

    JP Auclair, 37

I've been skiing since I was six, going on 39 years now. I'm a good skier, by some standards a very good skier, but I've always admired those who have made skiing their life, particularly those who could show the joy that I feel when I ski, even if I will never ski as well as them.

JP Auclair, from Quebec, was one of those. The segment of Sherpas Cinemas' "All I Can" of him skiing through the Trail, BC is brilliant, fun, wonderful, and one of the classics of ski cinema.

That film also included a segment of 70 year old skiers who put in 100 days a year. JP should have been one of them in 40 years but he died yesterday in the remote peaks of Chile along with Andreas Fransson of Sweden.

More often than not we see sport and athletics as competition and forget about the joy of doing. JP was able to bring his joy to others through the films he was in.

Paul Revere dies at 76, founded Paul Revere and the Raiders
Paul Revere, a teenage businessman who found an outlet for his entrepreneurial spirit in the form of a campy rock 'n' roll band that capitalized on his name, wore Revolutionary War-era costumes and cranked out a string of grungy hits in the mid-1960s, has died. The founder of Paul Revere and the Raiders was 76.

Revere died Saturday of cancer at his home in Garden Valley, Idaho, his longtime manager Roger Hart told the Associated Press.

On the day the Wildrose died, it was announced Ralph's father past away last week. Coincidence?
A famous father and legendary wrestler has died at the age of 97.

Phil Klein, father of long-time Alberta premier Ralph Klein, was a man with meathook hands and a soft heart. He passed away this week.

mad dogs and englishmen was the name of the 1970 album, not the name of the band (i don't think joe ever had a "named band").

the album was named after a song written by noel coward back in the 30's that wasn't even covered on the original album release although it was covered in the studio by leon russell (yes that leon russell) and included in the 2005 deluxe edition of the album.

i think joe covered it as well later on but can't remember where.

Top criminal lawyer Edward Greenspan dies at age 70

Mr. Greenspan, one of Canada’s foremost criminal lawyers, died on Wednesday at the age of 70. He left an indelible mark on the criminal justice system and on the legal profession. His client roster was heavy on the rich and powerful, with the likes of media baron Conrad Black, theatre impresario Garth Drabinsky, German lobbyist Karlheinz Schreiber and Nova Scotia premier Gerald Regan. But it also included Robert Latimer, a Saskatchewan farmer accused of the mercy killing of his disabled daughter.

Wow - a guy I'd seen often in re-runs growing up and never knew his name. The new says he played Winston Churchill in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds a couple years ago.

He was pretty much EVERYWHERE in the late 70s and early 80s. I remember an issue of The Canadian magazine(that oversized supplement that came with the Edmonton Journal), and they had a feature in which various public figures gave their opinions on inflation(hot topic in the 70s). Harron was shown in his Charlie persona, talking about "inflammation" and how the government has a vested interest in keeping it up.

I also remember reading his "Histry of Canada", which included the opinion(again, expressed through Charlie) that while he understood Quebec's reasons for being reluctant to fight overseas in World War II, he hoped that now they might understand what the struggle was all about. It occured to me that if he had expressed that opinion directly, he might been accused of being anti-Quebec.

Around the time when the MacKenzie Brothers were still a going concern, I read an interview where Harron, speaking as himself, said that while Bob And Doug represent urban Canada, he spoke for rural people. He seemed pretty serious about that.

Link Byfield, of course, was a politician, a #wrp founder & candidate, a former elected senator-in-waiting.

I always thought her singing of "You Don't Own Me" was awesome. I like the construction of that song too....like Walk the Line...the key changes make sense...
